|

I am a Filipino, married to an American who lives and work as a professor in Seoul. I will be leaving for Seoul on February-- my current visa is C-3 or tourist but we will change it to F-3 or dependent visa when I get there. Are there any job opportunities for me there? I have degree in Education Major in English and I am already a licensed teacher. Can I teach in a university or do private tutorials legally there? Any inputs? |

They just approved Indians to teach. Not sure when Filipinos will be allowed. It was supposed to happen this year, but they keep changing they requierments. You might just have to end up being a happy housewife for the meantime. And it will get boring. |

It might be possible for you to get a job at an international school as you do have the right educational background. There are unlikely to be many international school job openings until August 2010. However, now is the time to start sending out your resume. |

I'd apply to as many international schools as I could if I were you. This is about the time they start hiring; also, there is always a demand for supply teachers.
Good Luck! |

There are some here who have wives/husbands who come to Korea on spousal visas and they tend to have more freedom to move around than their spouses.
I am led to believe that some with an F-series visa has the right to do private tutoring without worries.
There is already a thread on the various opportunities those with F-series visas have.
I'd suggest you do a search on the F-3 and find out all you can about the privileges you might be entitled to.
Good luck and welcome to Korea (in advance). |

thanks guys for your ideas... I greatly appreciate it.
Don't you think F-3 visa holders aren't entitled to teach and work?
Do you think I will need police clearance or criminal records when I apply for job there? |

I am not sure whether it is legal or not, but I have met Filipinas with F-3s who work in hakwans.
It would be best to check with immigration.
However, if you were hired by an international school it would be totally legal.
For your best chance to get any job, you would do well to have all your official paperwork together (teaching licence, police check, university degree, etc).
This is the blog of a lady from the Philippines who lives in Korea. She is married to a Korean, but she may be able to put you in touch with someone in the same situation as you.

ANYONE can work - you just need approval.
With an F-3, what will happen is if you get sponsorship from an employer (the Internaional school idea is fabulous because you are a certified teacher), you can apply for permission to change (or as an extension) the status of your sojourn, which entitles you to keep your F3 AND permission to work. |
