Wouldn't it be awesome if those fruits were available here.

Actually I'm curious about the smartphones, they were everywhere when I went back home and honestly they seem like a better machine than the Iphones.

Are they available in Korea, I don't think I've ever seen one here.

Anyway just curious about why they dont have them here in Korea, or is just that Samsung is scared of them and the tariffs on them are RIDICULOUSLY high making their selling price outrageous.

Is it Korean protectionism? or is Blackberry just marketing a lot here?

Any of the better-known smartphones from the west are annoyingly expensive to get and slightly more difficult (fewer stores have em in stock).

Having said that, blackberries are used mainly by businessmen who need the constant access to e-mail and the internet, and their companies pay for their machines and bills. I've only known a small handful of people (all businessmen, Korean or otherwise) who went through the trouble of getting them and use them regularly.

Buuuut... Don't quote me on this; maybe loads more people (than I realize) have it and I just don't know the right people Confused

Apparently they're more popular in the States, but I did use them for a bit when I visited Toronto and I must say they were a much more user-friendly machines than the Iphone.

It doesn't have the pop markert punch of the Iphone, but i think it was more fun to use.

Simple access to email, messenger, the internet, etc, for not THATTTT expensive. And it's much better than the top phones I've seen from Samsung or LG.

SO the reason is Korean protectionism, cause those things would have value all over Korea.

Blackberries are available in South Korea from SK Telecom. Right now, they are mainly targeting business people and government institutions but you can go to select SK stores and find them.

I've got a Blackberry that I mainly use for work (not a teacher). I love it as it's much easier to type in English than my other phones (Samsung, Motorola). There's a lot of cool apps too.

Only bad thing is that the battery drains quickly, especially when you have Bluetooth or wi-fi going.

I've only seen the older Blackberry bold available. Can you get the new 9 series magnum? It's been out in other countries for almost 2 months now.

About half a dozen of my friends have Blackberries (which are also available in White for some reason). All paid for by their companies. Some of them now bought in Korea with SK. They work very well overseas (we tried this on the NY Thailand trip).

Still I don't see the reason to bring a work shackle with you on a vacation. I enjoyed my time much more since I couldn't be reached by anyone I didin't want me to reach.

While away I fell in love with the HTC HD2 - any ideas if this is being sold in Korea?

I've had my first Blackberry (and smartphone) for two days and love it! Now, I know why they're so addictive. I bought the relatively new Tour 9630 and this model is a global phone as well although the embassy always provides me with a cellphone when I'm overseas. Still, it's nice to know I have the option of using it if necessary when traveling.

At first, I thought this thread was going to be about the blackberries that you eat. Actually, during most of my formative years, I would spend a lot of my time during the summers picking blackberries...

I have a Blackberry Curve through AT&T. When I get to Korea would I be able to just buy a new sim chip with a local company and it should work? It wouldn't work in Taiwan, but I hope it will in Korea. Anyone know?

99% chance no. They don't really use sim cards here

The Blackberry Bold 9000 offered through SK Telecom is a GSM phone, so it should? I'm in Canada, but from what I've heard, SK networks operate mostly on CDMA technology.

Does anyone know if you have to pay a premium to use the SK GSM network, or are they as competitive as others? Also can you use the network without having to set up a data plan for your phone (as in Voice Only)?

From what I have heard (might be wrong). The sims are locked to the phone, you can't just take it out and put it in a different phone

You can buy the fruit here. They're a little difficult to find, but I usually get a few batches during the summer (and a few kilos of raspberries).

I know a guy who knows a farmer.
