it's nothing immediate, it's small and it causes no pain or discomfort, but when I was briefly back stateside in the summer I was told by some doctors that since it's not that far away from the lymph nodes going up the arm, I should consider getting it removed.

So... I was thinking , since I'm in Korea and paying into their Health care insurance, perhaps I'd be best off having it defray at least part of the surgical costs. I'm not stupid or insanely rich enough to go back to the US and getting it done there. It'll be here or in Thailand.

anyone ever have a similar issue or undergo a similar surgery here? I strongly suspect it'd be a simple outpatient operation with no hospital stay, etc. Any suggestions, recommendations, etc?

You should HURRY!

I had a benign tumor removed from my neck.

Went to the (Ansan Medical Hospital) and the doctor said no problems and booked me into see the "General Surgeon".

I had to wait a month to see the "General Surgeon".

Then the General Surgeon said, sure - its benign but we can do surgery to remove it.

I was then placed on a 6-month waiting list for the surgery.

So, if you want it removed, hurry up, because there are many waiting lists.

p.s. Yes, there was no hospital stay, simply dress in the pajamas, go to surgery, wait around 2 hours after surgery, then go home.

Cyst. A cyst is a sac that may be filled with air, fluid or other material. A cyst can form in any part of the body, including bones, organs and soft tissues. Most cysts are noncancerous (benign). It's important to note, however, that nearly all cancers can produce cysts.

Tumor. A tumor is an abnormal mass of tissue. Like a cyst, a tumor can form in any part of the body. A tumor can be benign or cancerous (malignant).

Be wary of the stitches. Korean doctors take them off in a week or less because they're worried about scarring.

However, a friend of mine had his wound open up after the stitches were removed and the wound took several months to heal. Of course now, he has a massive scar.

I can vouch for the service of Kyunghee East-West. I`ve always had excellent service when I went there. I had a benign cyst removed from my jaw area and they did it flawlessly. Used some fibers that left very little scarring. Didn't cost that much either. The resident doctor's English was great and made me feel at ease. It was a day surgery. Just had to be careful with the dressing and showering.

Yup. Take a couple of stiff ones, strop the Barlow, and apply direct pressure afterward. Nothing to it at all.

Chicks dig scars.

How much longer do you have until you go back to your home country?

I would never want to get surgery in this country.

I had a sebaceous cyst removed from my chest at Yeungnam University hospital in Daegu.

For such a small operation it freaked me out because it was done under local.

What this guy says:

"Be wary of the stitches. Korean doctors take them off in a week or less because they're worried about scarring.

However, a friend of mine had his wound open up after the stitches were removed and the wound took several months to heal. Of course now, he has a massive scar."

Happened to me.

not sure if I'll go back stateside and if I do, I'll be paying preposterous premiums for health care unless I get a very good gig (unlikely in these times). And I won't be covered for it, because it'l be an "existing" condition.

I refuse to pay a penny for anything done stateside unless it'd be a life saving super advanced kind of surgery they only do in the US. People have surgeries and are fine everywhere else around the world Very Happy

Xuanzang, thanks for the rec, I think I'll check those guys out.

I had a long-term hospital stay and it was one of the worst experiences of my life. Felt more like a prison than a hospital.

The level of medical treatment here in Korea can vary from center to center. Choose your clinic or hospital carefully and make sure that you can communicate with the staff. I have found that most of the problems that foreigners have in hospitals are due to poor communication and can be avoided by choosing a hospital that has multi lingual staff. They usually cost more, but it is worth it.
