Why are sausages wrapped in plastic in Korea?

I'm talking about the sausages that come in packs of 5 or 10, like the ones used to make hot dogs. You can buy them at, say, Emart or your local convenience store.

In the States, sausages are ready to eat right out of the pack.

In Korea, each sausage is individually wrapped in a very thin sheet of plastic that must be removed before eating. It's very inconvenient. What's the rationale?

I didn't know about the wrapping, so the first time I made sausages I cooked and ate them with the wrapping on. After a while I noticed the wrapping so the next time I tried cooking them without, but in my opinion they tasted just as bad with or without wrapping.

Hmmm. Your poop didn't come out wrapped in plastic did it?

Maybe I'll try eating the wrapping next time, but to me it has the exact feel and consistency of the plastic they use to wrap CDs or DVDs, so I think it'll be weird.

Several brands in Canada come with a plastic wrapping, several don't.

One of the big packages I bought at e-mart had a plastic wrapping on it (not sausages, they were hot dogs)

Wrapping your sausage in plastic is an effective way to avoid the clinic.

Ate at least two of them before I realised it was plastic. Thought it was some thick skin.

In NZ the wrap is intestines or something. Some kind of meat or starch. But, not plastic.
When you cook the Korean ones the skin (is it plastic?) tends to soften so it appears edible ...

Update: I bought hot dogs and just tried eating one with the wrapping intact.

The wrapping is definitely plastic. I couldn't even break it with my teeth.

The plastic wrap is to prevent dirty,diseased foreigners from spreading their filth onto the sausages.
