One of my students said she got it done in here (not sure where exactly). It cost 2million won. That's very cheap in comparison to Ireland's prices. It's always been something that I'd love to get done. I hate wearing glasses , & my eyes get really irritated from contacts...Must start saving! mmm & also check out how safe it is here. |

It all depends on your prescription. So, in otherwords the worse your eyes are the more it costs. I got mine tested to see if i was a candidate and it was fairly expensive (3 thous. Can i think i can't rem now) you must get a check done first they test hte thickness of your cornea or something like that.. my eyesight was 20/80 when was in gr 7 it has obv stabliized now but i don't knwo what it is but the main thing is the wores your eyes are the more its going to cost to get it fixed. My friend's mom just got it done in Halifax and she's doing well, the night vision thing is a common ailment in thef irst little while after surgery, i went to a whoel presentation on the issue. Basically, talk to your optrometrist back home and see what they say.. |

My employer had the surgery 3-months ago in Seoul - on his right eye - he is now completely blind in that eye.
Apparently his surgeon "a proclaimed specialist in lasik-eye surgery" - really was not qualified to perform that surgery at all.
He tried to ask his surgeon for restitution - however the surgeon claimed bankruptcy and de-registered that business, opening up a new lasik-eye clinic elsewhere (here in Seoul).
My employer is now having further surgery - at a different hospital - to replace his cornea - taken from a donors eye.
Is it all really worth the risk - having it done in seoul?

Your employer is getting taken again. Corneal transplant is possible but an entire eye will not work if transplanted. |

Edited - I really should try writing things whilst sober - but if I did that - I probably never would ever write anything |

Why would Seoul be any riskier than anywhere else. A colleague of mine is in the process of suing a surgeon who botched her and several others lasik in Los Angeles. |

Bump
I am getting Wavefront LASIK on Wednesday at Myeong-dong Dream Eye Center. 2.0 million for both eyes. Will update on how it is afterwards, but the diagnostics, explanations, and facilities were top notch. |

For any of you in Gwangju (Jeollanamdo), I had LASIK done at Happy Eye (I think it's Balgeun 21 in Korean) near the bus terminal. I believe Dr. Yoon has spent some time practicing in the states. It cost me 1.5 million for both eyes and now my vision is better than 20/20. I was extremely happy with the results and have had no complications other than minor dry eye, but my eyes were much more irritated from contacts and I experienced a lot of glare with glasses. I was also pleased with the quality of care, which is more than I can say for some of the other medical experiences I've had in Korea.
Obviously everyone's experience is different and there's never a guarantee there won't be complications, but for me it was one of the best things I ever did and I would recommend this place and the dr. to others. |

| Just got my eyes repaired as of 3 hours ago. They are still recovering, but are pain free and my vision gets better by the hour. Will update tomorrow morning, but so far this is looking like a fantastic investment. |

Wow. After 3 hours if i tried to look at a computer screen my eyes were screaming and I couldn't focus at all. Did you get Lasek or Lasik? For me the night I had it done wasn't too bad, the next day was pretty bad, the day after was okay, just my eyes would get very tired very quick |

Had Lasik surgery last May at BS Eye Center in Gangnam. It's one of the most popular and well-known eye centers in Korea. A lot of Korean talents have had Lasik done there. We decided to have Lasik done there after a lot of recommendations from friends who have gone there.
Both my wife and I haven't had any problems after getting Lasik. The eye center is always busy with a lot of people. Very professional and courteous. There are surgeons there that can speak English for those having difficulty understanding and speaking Korean.
If anyone needs more information, feel free to ask. |

I did lasik surgery about 4 months ago in the united states.
It cost about $3,600 total (including all of the doctor's visits afterwards.)
The procedure wasn't very painful but it was extremely terrifying. I don't want to get into the details of how they do it, but you can google it. Bladeless lasik is the way to go to reduce complications-- but it's terrifying.
My vision before was.. bad. I couldn't see the big "E" on the eye chart. Near-sightedness and also some astigmatism.
I had pain in my eyes immediately after the surgery (lasting for 30-45 minutes) but it was more shocking/alarming than actually painful. I wasn't aware that pain could be felt inside the eye like that, but.. yeah.
I was really shaken up and upset immediately after the surgery, couldn't open my eyes and was sure that I'd gone blind.
After I got home and took a nap, woke up to put in the medicine.. suddenly I could see! Haha.
One of my eyes is still slightly better (one eye was much better than the other before the surgery too), but my vision is now better than 20/20. It may stabilize to 20/20 over time, but basically.. I see really well.
Also, I did have "halo effects" with lights for the first month or two. the first few weeks I avoided driving at night when i could, and didn't liek to look at the TV for too long. But now I don't see halos at all.
I have to agree with the earlier post about eyes getting "tired". For the first month or two, I'd notice that my vision was really strange when I was trying to read a book at night. It looked like.. a camera going in and out of focus repeatedly. This happens to a lot of people, apparently. Now that it's been 4 months, I do notice my vision seems a little worse when I'm exceptionally tired at the end of the day, but I don't often have the focusing-camera effect.
Anyway, I just wanted to write a little about my lasik experience. I did customized bladeless ("wavefront") lasik, and it was worth the money. I saw several different doctors and lasik facilities for several years before making the decision.. so, I recommend the same for you.
Good luck with whatever you choose! |

I had Wavefront LASIK done last January at 눈에미소안과 (Which translates to something like "Smile-in-your-Eye Eye Clinic"). The rough statistics of the experience:
-It cost 1.8 million won
-After maybe 45 minutes or an hour of testing, the actual surgery took maybe 10 or 15 minutes.
-Just minutes after the surgery I could see reasonably well again (although bright light was painful to look at).
-By the next day I was totally fine.
-The cost of associated medications and follow up exams was included in the price.
-The eye doctor in question has performed over 1000 surgeries, and spoken English quite well.
-One year later I am still quite happy with the results.
The clinic is located near the subway exit in 강남, in 서울. Also, they gave me a big piece of cake before the surgery. |

In my long term scope of things, thinking of big financial purchases, I would like to have laser surgery done on my eyes sometime. My questions: My eyesight corrected with glasses or contact lenses for some reason can only be corrected to 20/30. Can laser surgery fix my vision so I see perfectly?
Also, I have had what is known as a lazy eye since childhood. My contacts again seem to fix the problem when I wear them, but oh, I would feel so much better if there was a way to fix that once and for all. So, is there a way through laser surgery?
Thanks! |
Katy, lasiks won't fix the lazy eye thing... I've got a bit of the same problem. During my senior year of college, I got what we thought was red eye. It turned out to be a problem with my eye producing an acid that was eating away at my cornea... I ended up going blind for a month. After a strong round of anti-biotics and some time, it healed, but my right eye doesn' open quite as far as my left eye... I look sleepy now. The only way to fix it is to go to a plastic surgeon and get an eye tuck...
Come to think of it, that's common in Korea... what're the prices on eye surgery for cosmetics here? |
Just an eye lift?
between 800k-1.3m
You can get your entire face done for under 3k, it's crazy. |
