I recently started using "Google Chrome" instead on Internet Explorer.
Now whenever I try to read some news at http://www.koreaherald.co.kr
I get a WARNING from Google telling me that visiting http://www.koreaherald.co.kr will DAMAGE my computer - because that site contains malware that will operate on my computer without my knowledge.
see the warning - http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4036/4243346905_32ccb8dbc4.jpg
I have been reading KoreaHerald for years on IE - never knew it had malware. |

Yeah, it does the same to me on Chrome, I'm not convinced it does have malware as Chrome freaks out over Facebook once in a while as well. |

Now that you mention it. On one of the rare occasions i got a virus, it was immediately from visiting that site (within a matter of seconds). That was about 2 years ago.
I've used it many times since and it seemed ok. So i'd say where there's smoke there's fire. If you want to use it, you could possibly up the security level on your browser for just that particular site. |

I don't think you should take the Chrome warnings so seriously. I get the same warning when I visit my lab's webpage which we made ourself. Even a picture of myself is labeled as "dangerous content" by Chrome. |

Funny, a similar thing just happened to me five minutes ago trying to access my universities homepage, but I'm using google via firefox:
Safe Browsing
Diagnostic page for ......ac.kr?
What is the current listing status for ......ac.kr?
Site is listed as suspicious - visiting this web site may harm your computer.
What happened when Google visited this site?
Of the 103 pages we tested on the site over the past 90 days, 10 page(s) resulted in malicious software being downloaded and installed without user consent. The last time Google visited this site was on 2010-01-03, and the last time suspicious content was found on this site was on 2010-01-03.
Malicious software includes 49 scripting exploit(s).
Malicious software is hosted on 4 domain(s), including sion.or.kr/, bwegz.cn/, woshow11.cn/.
This site was hosted on 2 network(s) including .........., ...........
Has this site acted as an intermediary resulting in further distribution of malware?
Over the past 90 days, ..........ac.kr did not appear to function as an intermediary for the infection of any sites.
Has this site hosted malware?
No, this site has not hosted malicious software over the past 90 days.
How did this happen?
In some cases, third parties can add malicious code to legitimate sites, which would cause us to show the warning message.
Next steps:
* Return to the previous page.
* If you are the owner of this web site, you can request a review of your site using Google Webmaster Tools. More information about the review process is available in Google's Webmaster Help Center.
From reading the report, it seems that its another website hijacking the legitimate website rather than the actual website. All I know is, I've never seen so many viruses since moving to Asia (computer and biological.) |

No, google routinely marks Korean websites as bad, which aren't bad and then when reported will turn around and admit there was nothing wrong with the site and say something like "oh whatever was bad must have moved on". The korean internet is heavily reliant on activex, and has a lot of plugins. I'm sure google freaking out is because of that, not over any legitimate concern. It makes using google a pain though to search for anything on Korean websites which does nothing to encourage Koreans to use it. It is one of the few countries where google doesn't enjoy enormous market share, but why would it when it treats half the sites like dirty diseased lepers? |
