I've signed a contract with a public school, but I still want to go to another interview at a different school that I had lined up when I was considering all my choices. My Korean girlfriend says I'll waste the school's time, extend their interview lineup time frame, and that Korean schools in general want to choose a teacher quickly; she has a close friend, a public school teacher, who was responsible for hiring a NET recently. Her friend simply hired the school's present NET's friend who lives in Canada. This guy has no teaching experience, and it's quite disconcerting they didn't consider teachers already in Korea who have experience.

I hope it's not this way all over Korea, though.

I argue that I'm likely (well, should) not the only person being considered for the job, and that if I am -- and schools here in Korea just choose the first person that walks along -- it is foolishness and procrastination on the school's part.

Frankly, I want the interview practice. After waiting nearly a month (27 days -- I don't understand why) for a response to my cover letter and email/resume, I was emailed back with an invitation to interview. The interview is in a few days. I will for sure not take the job, but I feel that canceling after accepting the interview may hurt my chances of consideration next year should I reapply to that school. I don't know how Koreans think about this. If this school states that they'd like to hire me, I'll give it a day or two and call back and say I've decided to go with another position. I won't delay any further.

What are your opinions?

If you want the interview practice...go for it. That can pay off down the road as interview skills are often sorely lacking in applicants.

if you want the interview practice (and perhaps later how to reject a school), then go for it

but if you're worried about your future chances with them by cancelling an interview, imagine outright rejecting them

Interview practice is always good and never a waste of time in my opinion.

The more interviews you do then the better you will be at them. Wouldn't be a bad idea to write down the questions and answers you gave after the interview so that you can zone in on giving better answers for future interviews.

I agree with the guy/gal above. Back home we were told to go to interviews to help us out with future interviews. I tell my resume/interview class teh same thing. You might be wasting their time, but they don't know that.

I canceled graciously via email, stating I'd found a job.
