Let's see. Airing of grievances, check. Feats of strength, check. Sadly, no Festivus stainless steel pole.

That is actually part 5. (Did you read the first 4 parts)?

The stories are being translated (written) by Robert Neff

as Charles Chaille-Long: In the Footprints of Kublai Khan Pt. 5

Good article. It sounds like a version of carnaval after lent, except that there's violence instead of sex.

But if it's Korean festivus, it's only for Koreans, and certainly not "for the rest of us!"

Sorry to be anal this morning, but carnaval/mardi gras is before Lent.

Reminds me of this thing I read about in some village where half the town plays the other and they try to move a rugby ball into the opponents goal. Games last hours or days and back in the old times were little more than rolling fist fights.

Minus the death and serious injury it would be nice to do one of these things in a more festive atmosphere.

Embarassed like carnival before lent...

Perhaps then there's a small similarity in that this "festivus" precedes the rather sober ancestral rituals of the Chinese new year?
