I'm looking to rent a small apartment / officetel in Suwon. Ideally with no key money, if anyone has any info, please PM me. Doesn't matter if it's one room.
Thanks

You should go to a BuDongsan (house rental service) at desired place in Suwon, it's much easier to find an apartment.

There MUSt be apartments without key money. If friends of mine can get them in Gangnam, I' thought I could get one in Suwon.

In Suwon with NO key money is highly, highly unlikely. Areas with high foreigner concentrations have a few of them (Haebangchon, etc.)...but for the most part a minimum of 2- 5 million is needed...and that is way, way down at the low end as far as key money goes. At least you get it back in the end.

I know. BUt it's worth a try. HIghly unlikely means that it's a bit possible, right Smile I realise it's on the low end, 5mil. But here's the thing, I'm coming from Peru. Flights will be 3K usd alone for my husband and myself. Usually when people go to Korea, they have housing and a year to save up. I was in Korea for 3 motnhs, two years ago.

I've talked to my uni. ASked for key money. Fingers crossed. If not, I'm in the dorms for four months. But I found a couple places I like. So we'll see,. I'm more than willing to pay more rent for a couple months. And then put key money down and pay less rent.

So if 5mil is low, what's the norm?

Your friends got apartments in Kangnam without putting any kind of security deposit down whatsoever? If this is true, I would not count on this for yourself, anywhere in Korea.

I am sure that your school will at least loan you the key money...where are you going to work that doesn't provide an apartment? I know that some universities give you cash in lieu of an apartment, but generally those schools only hire from within Korea.

I'llbe at a pretty good uni, which is probably why they don't give key money or an apartment. The majority of the people they hire are already in Korea, so that probably explains it.

I have no idea. Ideally some place near SKKU and a subway stop. I'm not too picky Smile

Will you work/study in SKKU? it's not difficult to find an apartment there, not far from subway station (5-10 minutes walk, I think).
And yes, for apartment, you need key money (deposit money - like Korean people say), but don't need for a single room.

Or you can just rent an one-room (including kitchen, bathroom), it's enough for you and your husband, around 300-400k krw/month without key money (of course lower with key money).

Yes, working there. I guess I'll live in the dorms for four months, save and then find a place.

HOw much key money do you think I'd need for an apartment?

And what's the best way to find one? Are there real estate agents? Do they get a percentage from me or from the owner?
THanks
