|
|
Okay, so I've been looking for jobs in Busan (sorry my fellow Seoul mates) but I just haven't had any luck landing a decent gig out there.
I'm looking for a morning-afternoon type of shift, maybe 2.3/month (I have one year's teaching experience in Seoul), and if I could have my way, something close to Seomyeon or Centum City.
Am I asking too much? Or is it really that hard to find a good job in Busan?
Anybody know of any place that's hiring? I've been through most recruiters on Dave's and had maybe 2-3 replies/offers total out of all the emails I sent.
Is this common? Or am I really that ugly in my picture?! Because I know my resume looks good! And I've worked here for a year now! Maybe I'm just being too picky??
Somebody HELP!! It will be very much appreciated! Thanks! |

Busan web should set you up.
They also have a list of Busan-based recruiters that can be of some help. |

Gimhea is less competitive but as far as proximity to interesting areas of Busan it is basically in the boonies.
Just my opinion as a former long term Busan resident! |

Yeah, I was contemplating Gimhae for a minute but then I thought--why sell myself short of what I really want? You know?
Been through RBI, and I stay on Koreanbride.net, but I just haven't had any responses. And I email all these places them several times from two different email addresses.
I dont want to go back to Seoul, not that I hate it or anything, I just love Busan. |

Maybe they are contacting your school and not getting good feedback. |

hmmm.. I hope not. I did a lot for that school. And I have kept in touch with my supervisor there so...
I kind of have a lead from one of my friends on Kids College in Busan. Anybody hear of this school being reputable? |

Busan is a hard place to get a job these days. My buddy is a recruiter for Busan and he tells me that he gets 50-100 applicants every week so he can't even reply to half of them. He says that people that hound him with multiple e-mails usually get his attention but I can understand where he's coming from. I posted a job ad last month for my school as I was helping find my replacement and I got like 20 people applying in the first couple of days. I've never seen it this hard for jobs and I've been in Busan for a few years. I might be coming back in a few month so I hope things get better. |

Try Su with, I think it's ESL Jobs Korea. She advertises either here or on Hi Teacher! and she found me my current (good) job.
Forget RBI - they'll try to pawn you off on substandard schools while saying they're great. They offered me three separate sketchy positions!
Also try Mary and James - they were going to set me up with a really good school, but it was a bit farther out than I wanted.
Word on the street is that they're after American women right now. Which I am. So it might have been easier for me than for some. I think picture does matter a lot here, so maybe if you think your picture isn't great, have someone take some more?
Anyway, good luck! |

Yeah, the job market in Busan is very tight these days. I have a friend who finally ended up taking a job in Ulsan because he was so sick and tired of having no luck in Busan. Persistence is key.
Fire an email to Mary and James at <[email protected]> they helped me land my first public school gig and they were both a great help to me. I've recommended them several times and always heard good things back from those I'd recommended.
Also: Screw RBI. I agree with elizabethbennet. |

It all depends on the school I guess. RBI hooked me up with a sweet school last year and it was all good. They were great as far as finding me a job in Busan goes so I can't complain. And lots of people I know in Busan found a job through RBI and have good things to say about them. So if I come back I'll be using RBI again.
ESL Job Korea sent me some jobs but I found something better at the time. I'll use them as well. These 2 recruiters seem to have the most Busan jobs.
I have no idea who Mary and James are but I'll probably give them a try as well. Why not. Whatever gets me the best job. |

What school did you end up working at in Busan? I am currently working with Su to get a job secured in Busan and am curious about the school + how helpful Su was during the process.
THANKS IN ADVANCE! |

I'll be in a similar situation as OP pretty soon here. My contract with GEPIK expires in April and i want to find another public school in the Busan area for May or June. (Give me a chance to go home and visit the Family. Momma wouldn't be happy if I didn't make it home for two years) Do many of the public schools down there hire FT or is it mostly all hagwon jobs? Also, when is the proper time to submit my documents with a recruiter if I hope land a job during this time frame? |
