EPIK offers 1.8 million won per month for starting teachers in public schools in Busan, but offers 2.0 million for other locations. This is for people with just a bachelors and no tefl certificate or experience.

Why is this? Are there any recruiters that will offer more?

I was going to go through Korvia...but then at the Korvia website they seem to have you apply through GEPIK or EPIK?? I'm confused.

People want to be by the beach.

Supply and demand.

Economics 101.

Busan is in high demand because of the beach (as the previous poster said) and because it is cheaper to live in than Seoul in many ways.

It is a smaller city with a milder climate than Seoul.

Lastly there are fewer jobs in Busan than in Seoul unless you venture out to the surrounding areas like Gimhea.

High demand + Fewer jobs = lower pay

However, lower expenses than Seoul...and often better accomodations.

Its a trade off really.

How much cheaper? I mean, if someone lived in Seoul and then took a weekend trip to visit the city, would it be worth it as far as money is concerned?

How do you mean lifeinkorea?

If you mean living expenses...I found that Busan cost less when it came to restaurants, groceries, cabs, public transit (that may not be that much of a difference), shopping and so on....

Because most prospective teachers want to live in big cities rather than small cities and rural areas. To provide an incentive to work outside of big cities, they have schools there pay more money.
