I was released from my school on January 1. With a release letter. My visa is good until May.

Do I have a certain amount of time before I need to leave paradise??

Don't you need to leave paradise when the school kisks you out of their apartment you live in?

If you have your own accommodations or place to crash in the meantime, that is great news. I'm glad to see you consider Korea paradise. Don't wreck your paradise by screwing up with immi.

Take a visa run to Fukuoka to change your status back to tourist. You have 3 months (6 for Canadians like me) to stay and get another job. Your 250-300,000 won expenditure is a cheap investment for the future saftey and protection you receive from doing thing s right. Kangsan Travel in Busan sells the ferry trip for 190,000won. All you need to do is go over to Fukuoka in the morning, stay in the terminal, and return in the afternoon.

Yes you will take another trip to Japan when you land another job. So what. At least you get to fill your passport with more stamps and stickers!

Don't mean to steal this thread but I have a similar question.

Does this exit order apply as well for one who gives 30 days notice? Under an agreement with my school before I signed the contract, my last day of work will be Feb 20th (end of contract not until October). However, my flight out of Korea is March 1st.

Do I need to do anything with immigration for those 10 days that I will still be in Korea if my school informs immigration that I am finished on Feb 20th? My school says I have 15 days, however I'm a little hesitant to take their word without looking into it further.

You can get a new E2 in Japan? This is news to me. What about the criminal reference check? I dunno where you are from but I have to get some some dumb VSS check, I also have to have an interview. If you can do these things overseas then fine, last time I checked I couldn't. You don't get your airfare paid from Japan, so yes I think it's more troublesome and expensive. Better to go home for free and come back for free.

YOU CAN get a new E-2 visa in Japan. I just did. I was at a job in Pohang for 1 month; it was horrible; I gave notice, did not even get a letter of release, and yet I am now working at a great school in Busan, even after plenty of people on this board and even recruiters told me it was impossible for me to get a new visa.

I'm from the U.S. and what I did was get fingerprints done in Korea, sent them in with the printed out form for my background check, got that all Fed-Exed back to me, still had my other documents, had to come back in from Japan on a tourist visa before I found a new job, but in the end, I found a job within a month and a half (and that's with rejecting 3 less than stellar offers in the meantime).

So you can do it and you should and good luck to you! Also if you want a cheap and pleasant place to stay while waiting, I recommend the HanJin Hostel in Gyeong-Ju. There's lots of cheap stuff to do there, you can learn a little bit about Korea, and Mr. Kwon is very accomodating. He even let us bring our cat to stay there!
