So many hoops to jump through in order to get married in korea when its so easy to fly to the U.S. (Guam) and have a no hassle wedding. Just an idea. |
No hoops for us when we got married but that was back in 1999.
All we had to do is go to the Gu Office and get a notarized marriage liscence...end of story.
It is starting to look as if the OP and other posters here are confusing RESIDENT VISA requierements with marriage requierements. Those are two different things. |

I married a Korean man without any hassels in the legal area. I even got my F-5 visa even though I don't speak alot of Korean. Immigration officials like to tell you that you MUST be able to speak Korea. This isn't law-I think it is for their own amusement to scare you off. They tend to blind side you when testing your speaking ability. The immi woman asked me "Can you speak Korean? How do you go shopping for food if you can't speak alot of Korean?" I told her I could speak some Korean and that I don't do the shopping because my refridgerator is magicallly filled by fairies each week with all the food I need. |

I just got married to a korean man last year. They didn't ask anything about how much korean i could speak. My husband had to show some proof of money (the deposit for our flat).
We had no problems at immigration getting my F2-1 visa, they were actually quite helpful and rushed it through for us as my old E2 visa was about to expire.
The most expensive part of it all was paying the british embassy to legalise the wedding documents.....400,000 for a couple of stamps and signatures!! |

I have never heard of a Western woman needing money to marry a Korean male. A Canadian friend knew someone who married a Korean officer. She didn't have to have 30 million won or anything like that.
As far as the language thing, there was talk about it, but I don't think it would fly.
The Korean Government should offer free Korean classes to both foreigners living in Korea in certain urban areas, at least, and some rural locations with lots of foreign brides and encourage people to learn Korean. The government doesn't encourage foreigners to integrate and for foreigners to feel part of the society and accepted.
Anyway, congratulations. I wouldn't worry about such requirements.
How many Russian women would have been able to marry Korean males if they needed 30 million won to marry him? I don't think most European females would have that much money saved up.
All you need is love and to get officially married:) |

I'm just curious, where are you from (to the original poster)? Am interested in your decision to settle in Korea (is it Seoul?). |

I offer no help but I am glad to see this post. I have been dating my Korean boyfriend for about 2 and a half years and we are planning to get married and stay in Korea too. My situation is a little different since I work on base though. Good luck!
Edited because I forgot how long we have been together. |
