Really dont understand why anyone would purchase items on the internet from a public forum and not pick it up in person.

Not everyone lives in Seoul and me taking a 100,000won round trip to pick-up something is a bit excessive. |

All of the comments about only picking up items in person are pointless. Obviously there is a risk buying an item from some stranger on the internet, that fact need not be pointed out. 90% of the purchases through Dave's (I would imagine) are done through the post and not in person. Even if the buyer and seller live on opposite ends of Seoul, why would both parties want to waste 3-4 hours of their time for a transaction under 50,000 won?
The system in place here works fine...99% of all transactions go off without a hitch and in general you can trust the people you find on here (even the idiots tend to be honest when buying/selling).
Everyone's price point is different when it comes to how much money they're willing to transfer for a purchase, but surely the majority of those who say they would NEVER buy something without meeting the person face to face live in Seoul and don't get that for people out in the boonies it's better to use this system than to take a 3 hour trip to Seoul, whether it's risky or not.
Clearly David Ko understands that the police are not going to do anything and is surely giggling as he reads through all these posts by the people that he ripped off. Hopefully we'll find another way to track him down that doesn't involve the police. |

I would limit the buying power to only one item. Obviously, Dave's can't enforce this, but we can see if there are many things someone is selling. If someone wants something and lives near the seller, it's probably a good idea to meet them face to face. From there, a history is established. Then, people can buy more things and take greater chances.
It really doesn't take 4 hours to do this. You can meet someone half-way and either it is a pit stop along the way while you are going somewhere else, or you put in an hour or so at most.
I can usually go into Seoul on the weekends, make a purchase or sell something and come back before evening. Do other things while you are in Seoul, and you will see it's no biggie.
Another thing would be for sellers to try to sell what they can well before they leave. Don't just put up a thread saying you will leave Korea the following week and need to get rid of your stuff. Establish a different way of doing things so people don't think you will flee and you can be there in case there is confusion. Perhaps, you buy something at no fault of the seller, and you don't know how to use it, or you have questions. If the seller sells you the item right before they leave you might not get the help you need.
I am surprised at all this last minute garage sale stuff, as if the seller didn't know their year contract would be up. |

Sucks this type of things happen to people. But really you should just use common sense and meet the person face to face and make the exchange. And if its too far for you to travel then why take the chance.
lets this be a lesson for next time |

You take the chance generally because that product is not available where you live, or the price savings warrants the risk.
I have bought loads of XBox games for 10,000 won or less through Dave's....even with losing this 30,000 won, I have saved hundreds of dollars buying/selling/trading games (all through the post) versus buying games from HomePlus or ordering from PlayAsia.
It obviously sucks what happened, but I still think that 99% of the people on here are trustworthy and that there is no need to stop buying/selling through the post.
About only selling one thing at a time and not waiting for the last minute to sell your things...I think that those are both strange ideas. Why put up a separate post for your kettle, then your toaster, then your iron, and so on?? Also, it makes sense to want to sell your things at the last minute. Why go a month without a microwave or take the bus for 3 weeks without your car if you can just sell them at the last minute? Of course you take the risk that you won't sell everything if you wait too long, but that's the seller's choice...I don't think that it is a sign that someone is shady just because they say "Everything's got to go by Saturday." If anything those sales are an advantage to the buyer as you know the seller has no choice but to sell and therefore prices must be negotiable. |

| is there a way to run the numbers and see who is on the account. If one of them actually comes back registered to david Ko, then that will be one more bit of info that can be given to the police. |

ppl this is a complete waste of time and effort. nothing is going to get resolved. Other people in this thread also got scammed but i dont see them going to the police about it. why? why hasnt anyone gone to the police yet. this thread is nothing more than for people to b*tch and moan about what happened to them.
The OP said hes working a camp and is too busy. what about sunday? i am sure the police office is open on sundays. this is a dead issue imo since not one person has bothered to make any effort to contact police personell over this.
i think 'street justice' is in order. lol.. take it to the streets!!! |

Informer,
Unless you know exactly what is going on zip it if you would!!!
Some people have gone to the police and filed reports and have had second and third meetings with the police.. So all the information that can be gained will hopefully help them with their case.

Fair enough!
But i am willing to bet nothing will get resolved and the money will not get returned. I guess you will have to excuse my negative attitude towards how the judicial system works in this country. |

That seems a little early in the game.
You could have asked about it.
In the past a Korean bank has given me a bank name which looked very different to my real name (they gave me 4 letters out of my family name). You should have looked into it further.
I'm not vouching for that poster. I'm just saying that bank names and real names can sometimes have strange relationships. |
