Korean Top Team is an MMA gym that focuses on grappling and jiu-jitsu. Striking is also practiced. Amateur classes are M-F 11:00 AM or 7:00 PM. The pros train at 3:30 PM, but you are welcome to join them if you want a more intense session.
The gym right outside of Children's Grand Park subway station on Line 7.
The owner/head coach speaks pretty good English and there are a fair number of foreigners there on the regular.
I've been going for maybe 8 months or so, usually 3 times a week. If you are interested, don't hesitate to stop in and check things out. The environments is very welcoming--everyone is very friendly and respectful. No meatheads. =D |
Could you send me a link to their website? Or if possible give some details as to how the place is, what it provides/has, etc? |

Just a heads up,
Jang Duk-Young, a friend of mine, and a very talented grappler, has opened up a new Brazilian jiu-jitsu/MMA gym by Yeoksam station.
Duk-Young is a bjj brown belt under Professor John Frankl and is in my opinion one of Professor Frankl's best students. He's trained in Sao Paulo Brazil with the likes of Fabio Gurgel and Marcelo Garcia. He also has a handful of professional MMA fights under his belt.
Duk-Young himself, is a really nice guy. His English sucks but there will usually be someone to translate so we make it work. Also, there are currently 5 women training at the gym, so if you're a woman who wants to train but you're worried that the gym is a sausage-fest, not to worry; the gym has a fun, friendly, non-threatening atmosphere.
I've checked out the gym and it's really nice. Lots of mat space (the most I've seen in any gym in Korea), separate change room and showers, and weights/kettlebells.
I think his schedule looks like this:
M-F
6pm - 7pm: No-Gi/MMA
7:30pm - 9pm: BJJ Gi
9:30pm - 11pm: No-Gi/MMA
He has an afternoon class but I'm not sure about the times. It's 130k a month for men unlimited, and 100k for women. Sounds steep, but I guarantee you it's a drop in the bucket compared to what Brazilian jiu-jitsu will give you back.
Email me at [email protected] for more information. Cheers. |

Anyone know where UFC fighter Dong Hyun Kim trains at in Busan?
I think it's Team MAD, but I can't find it. |

Just out of curiosity, why is there a price difference between men and women? Are women excluded from certain training hours, or some other factor that may explain why it is more expensive for men than women?

I think it's mainly just a supply/demand thing. It's really tough to get women interested in grappling, which is a shame because I think BJJ is a great match for women, especially in regards to self-defense.
I'm all for equality but if lowering the fees encourages more women to participate I totally support it. The gym's atmosphere is better for it, as is the future of the sport in Korea. And the guys push themselves harder when women are around.^^ |

Yeah, I train at a different club and we also give discounts to women and children. Of course they get equal access to all the instruction and facilities (and we have a separate shower/locker room for women). I've never questioned the policy because I know that BJJ clubs have trouble attracting women and kids (it's mostly an adult male sport). We do have several women who train with us though, and they are getting good. One of them is a blue belt with a very technical guard game, and she won a couple of matches at Mundials last year. Anyway, yes, the discount is just to attract more women to try it. |

It's nice to see this sticky on this forum. I'm actually moving to Korea at the end of the month, Jan 26. I'll mainly be in Seoul, but want to travel to all the gyms in Korea and train both MMA and BJJ. I've been doing BJJ here in Chicago for a few years now. I hope to meet some of you guys already out there. If any of you are on FB, hit me up. www.facebook.com/jasonsuh.
I should have some gear with me. let me know if any of you guys need anything.

There is a MMA and Jiujitsu place between Gojan and Hundaeup. They have late classes as well. I have not gone yet, but i know a few people who do. There is also a Muay Thai gym very close on the same street. |
I checked it out tonight, and its legit. They do mma classes M-F at 8:30 and BJJ at 10:30. There are several pro fighters who train here and several foreigners. The instructor is a purple belt and speaks some English, but is easy to understand as well. There are students of all sizes. I do not remember the instructors name, but the school's phone is 410-9997. The city is Ansan. |

Anybody in Pohang interested in Capoeira Angola?
I'm a total novice just looking to get back into practice (and give the locals even more reason to stare at me). If you have any experience at all let's meet up and play. I know it's a longshot but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. In the meantime I will be on my back porch doing negativas. |

mma gym- team posse
Seoul- daerim station- exit 5, walk strait for 3-4mins until you get to the 5 가 리 (intersection) and make a right turn, then walk for about 3 more minutes but look across the street for a Team Posse sign, it is in the basement of the building good luck.
the pro/advanced class starts at 4 30pm. not sure what else they have.

Also if there are any mma fighters looking for pro fights, send me a pm |

Wondering about information for this gym:
Korea Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy
Location: Ahyeon-dong (near Ewha Women's University, subway line 2)
Instructor: Hee-Sung Lee (black belt)
Website: http://bjj.co.kr (English info and available on website, just click on "for foreigner")
These are the daily practice times:
18:30~20:00
20:30~22:00
22:00~23:00
Is it mostly high school kids or adults at all of the times or does the first one have lots of younger kids?
Thanks |
