When I lived in Hongdae, I went to VIPS about twice per week for lunch before heading off to work. I'd basically stuff myself with that one huge meal, go work for 8 hours and be full. Man I loved the place, especially the salmon, fruit, and making my own salads. Most people don't make their own salads but use the pre-made ones. Those have a lot of sauces that aren't on my diet. Now that I'm in Canada I have been seriously cravings VIPS for a while. You absolutely cannot get an all you can eat salad bar with salmon sashimi, fresh fruit, and coffee for about $15 here. In fact, almost every single buffet in my Canadian town is a greasy Chinese smorgasbord with cheap ingredients. Loved VIPS.

Also, nice Korean hotels do buffets right in my opinion. Probably the best meal I ate in my life was at the Hyundai Hotel in Gwangju. If somebody asks, "What was the best meal you ate in your life?" that experience immediately comes to mind.

If the best meal you ever ate came from a buffet, you need to get out more. Also, how fat are you?

I hope that when he said "best", he meant "most filling".

If he didn't, that is a very sad case.

By that ranking my 'best' meal would be a crappy chinese all you can eat buffet which had customers wheeled in on carts because they were too big to stumble in under their own power.

Nope, I mean the absolute best meal I've ever had. Tasty, well prepared, fresh, and full of a lot of high class foods that I don't get that often. I've also heard there are amazing hotel buffets in Seoul too, at some of the better hotels, which I'll have to try out next time I'm in Korea. If you're willing to spend 50,000 won I'd go for it since comparable stuff is over twice the price back in North America.

I've been to VIPS three times because (Korean) friends wanted to go there. The first time I was excited and had high expectation because people were raving over the food. However, I didn't enjoy the experience and didn't see what all the fuss was about. There was little I wanted to eat. The things I tried were tasteless. I went 2 more times anyway because it was a free meal for me and thought I should give it another shot. Same experience -awful. I tasted my friend's steak. It was an inedible glob of fat. Had to spit it out. The third time..gross again. I'll never go back. After eating there as soon as I came home I vomited. Actually, I've felt sick ever since that night...
Also, the VIPS I went to were in 3 different locations, Gangnam, Jeonju and Guro Digital Complex.
Oh and after I got sick and it didn't go away after vomiting I went to the doctor and am taking antibiotics...thanks VIPS.
