Hey everyone - I finally got around to doing what I have been putting off for a few months now and applying for jobs in Seoul! I'm really excited about this and wanted everyone's expert on opinion - one of the job offers I got offers 2.2 million won (I have no experience or TEFL certificate) and the hours look good and it seems pretty sweet but it stipulates that I would have to pay the maintenance and utilities on the provided accomodation. Is that standard? Do you all have to do that too? And if not, do you know if it would be a big chunk out of my paycheque? Thanks in advance.

Paying the maintenance and utilities is standard in all contracts. The amount will differ widely depending on your housing. If you get a officetel, then the maintenance will be more than if you got a villa. Some people pay less than 100,000 won per month, whereas others will pay more than 175,000.

Yes, it is normal. Piece of advice, though, make sure you are paying your utils directly to the util co. My first apartment in Korea was in a "full option" and we paid to the apartment manager, and I can promise that everyone in the place paid too much. No idea how common that is (this was outside of Seoul). My significantly larger current place with my husband has cheaper utils. I'm sure those bills were padded.
