As a child I hated Sesame Street. It struck me as lame lame lame. I hated it. It didn't help that it was an American show and I was British so it wasn't really geared to me, but it's something which also never grew on me. The muppets too. Hated them. Hated, hated, hated them.
And to this day, I still do. Whenever someone mentions "Big Bird" I have immediate visions of a muay thai kick to its legs to snap them off. Muppets? Well, there's a reason I use "muppet" as an insult, and it's not just because they're childish.
Any other Sesame Street haters out there? I hope I'm not alone.
This post was inspired by the thread about childrens songs you like. For the record: None of them. I think I wasn't born to be a child. |

No, I'm not into violence.
I think I just had an allergy to saccharine. |

I was never too much into Seseme Street, but I didn't hate it.

But Tinky Winky was, eh?
I can see how hearing the alphabet end in zee rather than zed could be upsetting.
Seriously though, who couldn't like "Put Down the Duckie?"

Sesame Street may seem obnoxious the first time around, but you pretty much need that exposure to fully appreciate your first Salvia trip later on. Speaking of which, they should make an advanced course of Sesame Street where they teach you about fractals and ego dissolution.

I loved Sesame Street so much that when I was little, I couldn't believe my Mom when she said she didn't like Sesame Street when it first came on the air, because she was already grown up and too old for it. But she assured me that watching it with me was just great!
I liked Sesame Street, but I never liked Elmo. He was a later character, probably added after the show became overly secure as a valid form of edutainment.
Say what you like about Sesame Street, but none of the characters use obnoxious baby talk except for Elmo. The original characters all used really good, standard English. |

Sesame Street originated quick-cut TV for preschoolers & maybe engendered a generation with attention deficit issues? |

I like the songs (how could I have forgotten Put down the duckie?!) but like Schwa wonder about shortening attention spans. I've noticed that many non-childrens' shows now re-cap the story frequently throughout an episode - are we really unable to hold the narrative thread for whatever portion of an hour a program runs? |

The old shows are funnier now. Snupalupagus wearing pajamas. Cookie Monster stealing from the Count. The Grouch. Gold I tell ya. Elmo was the worst though, always wanted to strangle that punk. |

How can you hate the Muppets?! They're brilliant!

Ernie and Bert are not gay. Sesame Street does not have any gay characters. |

If you were first exposed to it as a 7 or 8 year old, of course you hated Sesame Street- it was aimed at 4-5 year olds and it would've seemed babyish to you. |
