I taught there years ago and based on my experience I thought the school really bites. Pro's and Con's for me:
Pros
1. Clean in Jeju. Very nice places to see.
2. Not as cold as the mainland.
Cons
1. There are buses but the school is aways from downtown.
2. The administration at that time was awful.
3. Too far away from the beaches. |

Sorry, but the uni is 5 minutes from City Hall by bus except during high traffic times when it's 8 or 10.
Too far from the beaches? Were you hoping to hop off to the beach during a break period? Seriously, is an extra 2 - 3 minutes on a scooter that big a deal?
I've heard similar quotes to #2, but not always. I know some people have really enjoyed working there. It depends on your position I guess. |

1. City Hall? I wouldn't consider the city hall downtown per se. I meant down by the water where EMart is (was?).
2. A beach to swim in..big deal if I just see it. |

You're on an island! No more than 10~15 minutes from the water!
If you're at the Uniwon....it's on the campus, but it's the FLI..the university has its own ESL program of course.
Housing on campus I hear is somewhat new.
Many inexpensive cars for sale....1,000,000 Won or so and get around the island. You can always sell the car when you leave. |

Why can't you swim in the water? Yes, as I stated, if you were wanting to run to the beach for a swim during an hour break, you'll be disappointed. But if you're looking to go in the morning or afternoon before/after classes or on weekends, it's NOT far.
As for only being able to see the water...I love looking out my window in one direction and seeing Hallasan and then turn around and see the ocean. It's a wonderful feeling.
And what is in Tapdong other than E-Mart? Oh yeah, City Hall to Tapdong is another 2 minutes by bus making it 7 - 12 minutes from the uni...oh no, how long that is! I'll be a hermit being 10 minutes away!!!!! City Hall is the place with most of the good restaurants and bars in GuJeju and SinJeju is a little further, but still only a 15 minute ride or so. |
