I did a search of this area and didn't find much info on here. So, does anyone know much info about this area? I know it is on the Eastern border of Seoul, but with the metro it shouldn't be hard to get to some decent areas. So, any info on nightlife, restaurants, etc. around here?
Also, if I go to another section of the city how expensive is it to get home with a taxi, etc? I know this entirely rests upon the distance, so say a 15-20 minute ride. |

Type the single word 'jungnang' or the single word 'sangbong' into the search engine and you'll get plenty of hits.
The search engine goes nuts when you use more than one word or suffixes.
It basically a residential area which is extremely typical for Seoul. Not a lot of money around there. No nightlife to speak of.
In fact, Jungnang-gu could be defined by its ordinariness. |

I did type in Jungnang and didn't get too much worth noting, that's why I decided to start a new topic with this dong specifically. No nightlife..great. So I'm in for a boring time then? Though it's not Hongdae, or Gangnam there must be bars and restaurants of some kind? I was in a part of Taipei not known for nightlife and it had some spots to offer, and this is a much larger city than Taipei. I can look at maps of where nightlife is, but it is hard to understand how difficult it will be to get there and get home at night. If anyone could answer that, then I would be appreciative. I suppose it's better to live in a boring part of Seoul than to not live in Seoul at all. It's a straight shot down the metro to the Walker-Hill casino, so I can play hold 'em after work at least. |

Costco is in the area. That's the only plus I can think of. |

haha. Maybe not the greatest reason to live there, but it is a plus. It's nice to live near Costco. As for me, Costco is one block away. As a matter of fact, if I look to either side of this computer screen, out my window, I can see Costco!!!
You can at least be the envy of everyone by living there. |

Working in Gangnam will not make your life in Korea much better. If at all........Living in Gangnam is only highly valued by Koreans......any foreigner who spends much time in Gangnam quickly realizes that, apart from being a bit more expensive and having some shiny office buildings, it's much like the rest of Seoul.
Gangnam nightlife is quite Korean-style. Room salons and Booking clubs.......most foreigners don't really go for it.
I'd say that the right job is much more important than a trendy neighborhood......the least hours and the most time off is pretty important for your first year in Korea. A lot of hagwon teachers in Korea find themselves working 50 weeks per year. It doesn't really matter where you live when you're stuck in a small windowless classroom all day. |

Not really. But you are a bit more than a 20,000 won taxi ride at night from someplace like Itaewon back home. From Hondae/Sincheon? Closer like 30,000.
Closest 'hotspots' would be Nowon (to the north) and/or Konkuk University / Guui-dong to the south/south east. About 10-15,000 won ride back home from those two places. |
