I'm not there yet, I'll be there in March, just trying to prep myself before I get there. But I think I'll be living near Yatap Station, I am going to be working for Maple Bear
What are the prices like? Are there guys there to spar? or do hand pads with? |

Everything varies from gym to gym, but the monthly fees at my gym are 100,000KRW. There are two coaches there and they're always down for working the mitts. You can find sparring, but you'll have to ask about it. Most Koreans in the gym aren't fighters and have no intentions of ever fighting. Most people are just there to stay in shape.
So are you a boxer? What type of fighting are you training for? |

You attend a boxing/K1 gym in Bundang? If so, I'd be interested interested to know the details. |

| More specifically I go to a boxing gym in Sunae-dong. There isn't any K1 going on there, but I don't see why you couldn't kick the bag if you wanted to. Anyway, it's about a two minute walk from the subway station/Lotte dept store. If you go out exit 1 or 4 and just go straight, it's in the last building on the right on the 5th floor. There is a sign that says 김광선복싱 up near the top of the building. Same side of the street as 명인만두. |

Yeah I've been boxing for about 4 years now, I'm 26, I've only had amateur fights, I just plan on keeping my skills sharp and my body in shape for when I go back to Canada.
Do the trainers speak English? |

| Hey, I don't want to sound pushy or annoying, but is it possible to post pics of your gym? You don't have to if you really don't want to |

I'll try to remember to get some pics when I go to the gym tonight. There are two trainers at my gym and one of them speaks a little English. One thing you'll learn pretty quickly is that if you've already had amateur fights, you'll be past learning what most of these trainers teach. You'll also find yourself scratching your head at why they're doing some of the things they do. Anyway, I'm also 26 and have had some amateur fights in the US and I get by just fine training myself. If you've been in a gym and had fights, then you already know what you have to do to stay sharp.
At what weight class did you fight? I used to fight at 141. I'm a little heavier now, but still around welterweight. |

I see I'll have to be pretty self reliant with regards to training once I get there. About weight class I'm super heavyweight (200+), but I am well over that weight. In terms of physique, think of David Tua with a bigger belly, I weigh about 270lbs, but my plan is to try to drop to 220 by the time I get back.
Have you had any fights in Korea or plan on fighting? |

| I would love to get into boxing. Not really for the fighting, but for exercise and self-defense purposes. |

| I haven't fought in about 3 years, but I do want to fight here. I've been getting back into shape lately and the coach at my gym has been pushing me to take the pro license test. So hopefully the next time they have one, I'll be able to get off work and go. They have a novice tournament for new pros here every year too, so I'm hoping to enter that when it comes around. It'd be nice to find a few other guys near my weight class who have experience though. I'd like to get some good sparring and shake off the rust before I have a real fight. |

When do they have the novice tournaments? How long is it?
Maybe when I get down we can spar together, I know I'm way over your weight class, but at my gym I spar guys who range from 135-250 lbs. I actually spar a guy who is considered one of the top lightweights in Canada (he recently beat the National Champ at a club show), so I know how to lighten up my punches. |

ccikulin,
Do you happen to know the exact locations of the the Jeongja and Migeum gyms you mentioned? (and their rates?). I'm near Migeum Station and I have an interest in getting into boxing. Mostly for health purposes at this point, but maybe carrying it further if I find that I enjoy it. Going to a gym where instructors speak some English would be a plus, but not an absolute requirement. Thanks! |

Can you talk more about this "pro test." My trainer doesn't know much english other than boxing terminology and he keeps saying "pro test" and points to the calendar in June. Do you have any idea what type of skill level these people are and any other details about the tournament? I'm you're weight class as well. |
