Today is the day that my diet begins. Finding and ranking the best hamburgers in Seoul has been a joy and a curse. Luckily, the restaurants have gotten better but there are more of them as well. Suffice it to say, hamburgers are not just a fad in Seoul; you'll find burger restaurants dotted all over the city.
The first review that I did a year ago was received with an equal amount of praise and scrutiny. I found people are passionate about their burgers. For this review, I went to over 20 restaurants - a few more than once. This year I decided to not include franchise burgers to this list. Also, I decided to look at the signature burgers of each restaurant. My criteria for ranking were on the quality of meat, bun, toppings, service, and overall enjoyment.
1. "The Fresco Burger" from Jacoby's Burger in Haebangchon. This is the Eiffel tower of hamburgers in Seoul. You have a moist and richly favored hamburger patty topped with mozzarella cheese, bacon, tomato sauce and a tower of onion rings. It is a beautiful thing to behold and a tad difficult to eat. The crunchy onion rings with the tar tar sauce, plush garlic beef patty, and mozzarella cheese fuses beautifully. After your burger you will be smiling with a halo of shiny beef grease around your mouth. Oh, and you can customize your burger just the way you want.
Price: 10,000 won
Phone: (02) 3785-0433
Where: Haebangchon
Read the rest at the above link and see the pictures of the burgers. |

Seems like every time someone posts a "best burgers" article, it's full of personal opinion and [Mod Edit] no one would want to spend their money on.
This is no exception. |

All reviews are opinion though aren't they? Oh...and be careful with the swearing...it makes the Mods angry. |

Yea, but it's always the guys that are at home going "look kids, THIS is a real happy meal!" All the while not realizing their kids just want to hit the drive through for the good food. |

Krazy Burger has a veggie burger now... not really related, but I thought everyone should know. It is, by far, the best tasting and most expensive veggie burger I have ever eaten. |

I'm always pleased with Jacoby's. If I still lived around HBC, I'd be there far too often! |

GREAT list. Agree on Jacoby's (tasty, tasty burgers), but sad to see Platters (in Hyehwa) is nowhere on the list.... I'm quite fond of their burgers, and they make a very decent cheesesteak. |

I've had mixed results at Jacoby's. Overall, ingredients are decent but they are really hit and miss with the execution. In the past I've had to wait well over an hour for my meal when there weren't more than 10 people in the place. And more than once the patty has been dry and tepid. I'm guessing to save time the chef precooked a number of patties then fired them again when someone ordered - a big no no! And I know several other people that have had similar experiences.
Gotta say I'm surprised by the review; then again, I think a lot of expats have forgotten what good food tastes like or, perhaps, have never even known. |

Jacoby's is good, but sometimes has a huge wait for an empty dining room. Hit or miss. |

I agree. I posted this just for discussion, but the expat "food critics" are super lame. They NEVER consider price as a factor ("I recommend the 250,000 won spam buffet at the Hotel Fountainblew"), plus all they do is grade restaurants within walking distance of their Itaewon and Gangnam apartments. You NEVER see them talk about restaurants in Ilsan, Suwon, or even other parts of Seoul. Buy a subway ticket.
The worst thing is that ALL of them, including Zenkimchi, accept ads from restaurants and suddenly LOVE the food at that restaurant. They may even run a "story" about that restaurant's menu or have a "facebook meetup" at that restaurant. That should be viewed in a negative light by anyone who takes this seriously. Credibility? |
