Wendys closed its doors in Japan after almost 30 years this week but not before attracting long lines that spilled onto the sidewalk at some of the hamburger chains 71 restaurants. |
This won't keep me from going to Japan, but there will be one less thing to look forward to.
Sigh.

The one in Osaka near Nambu Train Station was very good. The Chili with a baked potato was tasty, and the burgers made me smile and forget all about going to Subway Sub shop near the river. |

That's really too bad. I was quite fond of the one at Shinjuku.
I think business was OK, but it said there was a contract issue and they would be open to returning to Japan.
Maybe they'll give Korea a good look.
Never say never... |

Was Wendy's burgers advertised as "never frozen" in Japan as well? I don't know how fresh beef prices are in Japan, but I think the fact that Wendy's doesn't use frozen patties will make almost impossible for them in Korea. I can still get a decent Wendy's spicy chicken ripoff from McD's so I'm pretty happy. |

This is particularly BAD NEWS to me as I live in Japan. |

Well, seeing as how Wendy's has mostly turned to crrrrap in the US, I don't see this as particularly alarming. |

Wendy's is not so bad in America. The wife and I ate there yestersday. It is the only fast food chain where you can get a nice salad and a baked potato with low fat sour cream. At Burger King your only choice is between fatty onion rings or fatty fries.
I will miss Wendy's in Japan. |

Yeah, I like Wendy's. Not a fan of fries, so nice to be able to have another option, including the aforementioned salad and potato. I usually go with the chili myself. |

I must have gone to some ghetto Wendys then. It seemed as if all the salad bars were gone and the burgers had more bone chips in them than when I worked there way back in the early 90s. |

I don't understand some people. If you want low fat food...stay out of burger joints...lol. |

Ever heard of balance? From time to time you want greasy food, but just the burger. Something light on the side to go along with it would be nice too. Easier to do at Wendy's than BK and McDonald's. 600 calories is better than 900 calories right?
And a lean burger (which admittedly is not what you'll find in a fast food restaurant) won't pack on the pounds like fried potatoes will.. |

This.
You can drink your soda with a home-cooked healthy meal (steamed vegetables and legumes, for example).
Or you can visit a fast-food place and get a Big Mac/Whopper by itself, and maybe grab the nuggets (if you've been working out), but eschew the soda.
Never eat the fries. Never. |

My understanding is that Wendy's already tried Korea and failed. They were bought out and then became "Winners" or some other name like that until they finally closed completely.
It's like WalMart. They tried, but just couldn't make it.
It was kind of sad because I was hoping there might be a Wendy's in Korea and then my coworker informed me that it already failed. She made me sad. |
