http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/10/travel/10places.html?scp=1&sq=must%20see%2031&st=cse

"Forget Tokyo. Design aficionados are now heading to Seoul.
They have been drawn by the Korean capitals glammed-up cafes and restaurants, immaculate art galleries and monumental fashion palaces like the sprawling outpost of Milans 10 Corso Como and the widely noted Ann Demeulemeester store an avant-garde Chia Pet covered in vegetation. "

another good news for expats in korea.

Yeah, thanks for those links Ashland. It's a bit of a sad reflection however that this thread will likely garner a single reply for every one hundred that the "Lonely Planet thread" did. I'd wager my firstborn on it.

For the love of god... here we go....

Welcome to the thread Jana!

Out of curiosity, can you come up with a conspiracy for the second link re. the projected climb of the korean won this year?

Yeah...jana...you tell those apologists! It's true you know...koreans bribe EVERYONE.

Where's your evidence of this Jana? Have you been bribed? Because I haven't. That fact alone makes it impossible for koreans to have bribed 'everyone'.

I have never been bribed. I don't see how a place can be #3 simply based on a few galleries and a design show. Seoul is a great city don't get me wrong but the list is kind of weak on its arguments.

I read that article too. However, unless I misread something (and I was skimming), I don't think the numbers signify any particular ranking.

It's just a travel puff piece...they're always light on the details. I don't think that it's a bad thing, but it's not necessarily something to hang your hat on either.

I can hear people who took this article serious shouting....

"What??? Why are all of these people spitting, and pushing me, and where are the immaculate museums??????????"
ha ha ha ha

I'm no apologist and you can find instances of me being critical about Korea, but seriously... I've seen your posts harping on about how great France is and so on and so forth and how Korea isn't. Is Korea really that terrible? Do you need to bash it at every turn? Seoul has its downsides, we know. Like another said, it's a travel piece, and those usually lack on details. There's good things about Seoul and we shouldn't be so quick to hate on it.

With a user name like JANAFROMFRANCE, don't take his posts seriously.

They must have bribed someone. Or they were cunning.

Yeah, and Antarctica was number 9. What a joke. The "sole" reason for going to seoul was about the design thingy. Big whoop. I like living in Seoul, but this article was stupid. It reads like the sort of out-of-the-way, fringe article that some netizen scrounged up in a desperate search to find any and all articles that say something good about Korea.

Does it matter if a certain place is on a list or not?
I believe those places that are on the list are the ones that are packed to the brim with tourists. Those places that don't make the list (for any reason) are charming in their own special way.
Seoul might not seem like the optimal tourist destination, but it is an awesome place to go shopping, especially for children's clothing (I used to buy outfits for my nieces and nephews when they were younger). There is also Yongsan technomart, the best place to get deals on computers and computer hardware and parts.
Also, there is the Sunlitur/Itaewon-Hongdae/Roponggi nightclub circuit for the hardcore party animals.

I don't see any problem with Korea either being on or not being on any lists.

Comments like all Koreans or all Americans do this or that are not acceptable. It's clear in the TOS. C'est interdit "Jana de France" de parler d'une facon raciste ici au www.eslcafe.com. C'est le cas pour tout le monde. Il faut suivre les regles.

Basically, follow the TOS. Racism is unacceptable. Offenders shouldn't expect further warnings. Try to qualify your statements instead of implying that everyone from a certain group think a certain way.

JanadeFrance, qu'est-ce que tu veux exactemment? Tu disputes toujours avec beaucoup de gens.
