I've been told it takes a month, is that true? Last time it only took 7 days. Thanks so much

It's possible that it depends on which province you're going to or somesuch. In my case, it took about a month (and I was sweating that month waiting to be told it wouldn't have gone through), and that was recently enough, October last. Is it an NOA you're getting or the visa itself? That might make a difference for all I know. By the way, in my case it was an NOA; they took all the documents for the visa when I got here.

If you're starting in March then that would be similar enough to my experience; I didn't get the NOA until September. I don't know how universities work over here, but back home it was a quagmire of bureaucracy whenever you had to get something important sorted out with the "university authorities" (fifteen different copies for funding applications to be sent to twelve different academic and administrative offices, with two extra copies going to your supervisor and the head of the department to sign off on, which will only then go ahead without complications if the moon and Jupiter are aligned in the fifth sign of the zodiac kind of thing).
