Can someone please explain how the process works regarding renewal of contracts (public schools) - Is there a specific process or do schools approach this differently ?
The reason I'm asking is that my co-teacher told me that my contract will be renewed. This is after I sent them a letter stating my intention to renew my contract (2 months before end of contract). I did not receive anything concrete that my contract will be renewed for a second year - no letter, no contract, nothing. It's now 5 weeks before the end of my contract.
Should I be concerned ?
Should I start sending out resumes to recruiters for placement in other schools ?
I will appreciate replies on your thoughts. |

At my school they gave surveys to the students and asked them whether they thought my contract should be renewed. They also had meetings with the homeroom teachers and discussed it. They also had another final meeting with the principal, vice principal and the administration chief. So it's not up to just one person. It was a pretty complicated process. Oh, and after all of that the education office had to approve it.
They will come back to you with the results when it is all finished and then finally give you the new contract to sign. Don't believe that anything is solid until you get that piece of paper. |

I think you should provide your POE name - there are many out there and perhaps others who work for the same one will be in a better position to tell you what is happening.
From my point of view - have they approved your renewal holidays extra 2 weeks, I know people who have signed contracts but are waiting for them to be sent back - there is alot of paper shuffling back and forth in the process.
5 weeks is quite worrisome in my opinion - so i think some serious talking and asking questions is needed - perhaps ask the CoT to phone while you are present the person in head office who knows whats happening? |

They will give you their decision 60 days before your contract is up. It will either be a renewal or a notice of termination after your contract is finished.
Unless you suck at your job or are not personally liked by your bosses (i.e., you don't play volleyball with other teachers), it's normally a renewal.
Be careful though. If you are offered a renewal and choose not to resign, your superiors can be highly vindictive especially if you are leaving them for another job. So if you do not intend to renew with them, make it clear before they make their decision. And of course, don't make any future intentions known to them. They aren't obligated to know them. |
