So I know Paju sits on the DMZ. I've been told that countless times and have been to the DMZ via Paju.

BUT, all the maps with city boundaries that I find show Paju as not bordering the North. There's other municipalities in between.

Can anyone help me to understand this?

You might be thinking of Panmunjeom.

People refer to Paju as being near/on the DMZ in an offhand way. Its close, but not quite there.

In Korea, there often seems to be a difference between the borders of a city and the "actual" city.

For example, the "city of Paju" is the entire area surrounding the DMZ, but the "actual" city of Paju is quite small.

Another example is how the off-shore islands near the DMZ are part of the "city of Incheon" but the "actual" city of Incheon is on the mainland. I dunno about anyone else, but the Koreans I've spoken to don't usually consider Incheon airport part of the "actual" city of Incheon.

there's a town called paju in paju-city. dmz is in the town called jin-su.
they all belong to the city of paju (paju-sih) which is bordering the north.

suppose iteawon was called 'seoul'. that's 'seoul' in the city of seoul.

Paju is a city area, like Goyang or Busan, which has many little cities in it. If you're following the Gyeongui line ( subway line), it starts just about at the Unjeong stop to Munsan (maybe a little after Unjeong) and to the DMZ.

There is a little rural village (town with at least 20,000 ) called Paju-eup within Paju-si. One of the largest areas within the city of Paju (Paju-si) is Geumchon.

Which is where you get that great video Kickin' it in Geumchon.
