So, every so often I stretch and my sweater or whatever lifts up and the kids look away in mock horror at my 'garden path'.

I know, I didn't want poofy dark hair on my body when I was growing up either, but I tell them 'Hey, girls love that hair!'

I am not a hairy guy at all, in fact, my dark hairs are only on my legs and go up to my navel, after that, nada. I don't even have hairs on my chest.
Seriously...

Any other stories?

in my current job I was replacing a 44 year old woman

Korean kids aren't used to seeing a young person with a beard. I was 24, they all thought I was 40 - they thought I was her husband.

Well, my Korean name is 이몽키 because i have pretty hairy arms and legs. We had something in our books about swimmers getting cramps and i tried to demonstrate with my calf, so I raised my pants leg and the kids went crazy.

I've always considered my hair to be a gateway drug here. One little touch of curiosity has brought more than a few women here to the dark side. Use it to your advantage, and remember that most of what kids say is just filler in the grand scheme of life.

I go with a beard when i'm in Korea. I don't want to be part of the cookie cutter world of Koreans. The female teachers don't like it, the men wish they had it, and I don't mind being called 'bear teacher' by the kids.

I like to grow it thick and then shave it off. Grow, shave, repeat. Its fun to mess with the Koreans that way. Beause people really do look like a new person when they shave off a thick beard. I will walk into the office and get funny looks. They know I look different but can't figure out why. It's the game inside the game.

Kind of like when Koreans wait until the day of a sporting event to tell me we are playing kickball or volleyball. Every teacher has their tracksuit and tennis shoes while I'm playing in my dockers with my loafers on. Damn you!

During 2004 EPIK orientation, the head of the orientation, during a speech to the foreign teachers, actually made a smart ass joke about this saying something like "We Koreans are hairless. That means we are more evolved than you."

I think the reaction of the crowd was a few embarrassed chuckles. But a good comeback would have been, "No, in fact, you Koreans who have evolved less. Your women have no T & A." Smile

If I'm not careful when checking one student's work another student will stroke my arm hair and 99% of the time say "Ah golden hair" (in Korean).

Or

"Teacher why so much hair?"

"Because I'm a man..."

We need Russell Peters in Korea to explain hair to the kids.

Koreans have fed me that same " we are more evolved because we have no hair" line many times. I then give them a simple evolution lesson: Mammals came later than reptiles and amphibians, so actually Koreans are still in the amphibious stage of evolution. "Do you think you more closely resemble a frog or a salamander? Mudskipper perhaps?"
