Hi everybody,
I'm Justin. Been a regular on other of Dave's forums for quite a while- Since I've been living mostly in Ecuador, the Latin American forums have been where I've been posting, mostly.
After a great temp job in Korea last year, I've decided to make a move, and will be arriving in Korea in March. Looking forward to it.
One question for the moment- due to costs in shipping, I'm having to let a few of my guitars here in Ecuador go, and will be looking for a replacement or two when I arrive. Where are the best places to buy guitars in Seoul?
I'll be living in Itaewan. (I think is how it's spelled.)
Best,
Justin |

Buy new guitars in Korea. Many mid-range guitars for cheap. Nakwon Sanka in Seoul. |

I'm not in Korea, but I know a lot of mid-range guitars are manufactured in Korea (especially electrics). Epiphones used to be manufactured in Korea before they moved to China, Schecters, and licensed Fenders both have factories in Korea.
The quality of Korean guitars are pretty good, and if you shop around, you can probably find some that are at least as good as most Japanese guitars.
On Seoul craigslist it looks like there's a dude selling licensed Korean Fenders (a strat and thinline tele) for 150000W each. In Canada (where I'm from) these would probably go for around $700 a pop. |

Thanks for the tips-
I'll be in Seoul from March, and am looking for:
A decent acoustic for parties. I'm one of those guys who likes to make people SING for their drinks.
And
A decent amp for my electric. I'll be bring one geetar with me, but can't get an amp in the suitcase.
Best,
Justin |

That sounds way too cheap. Willing to bet that they're either fake or they're Squires. |

It sounds really cheap to me as well. The dude just says Korean made strat and tele in the ad, and links to pics of each that clearly have Fender written on the head stocks.
I've never heard of squiers that were made in Korea, but if they are squiers, they're probably made in the same factory as the Fenders, and probably wouldn't be all that bad. |

I just looked on craigslist- lot of interesting stuff. I'm going to enjoy this! (Electric guitar is a minority interest in Ecuador- looking forward to Korea.)
The Strat and Tele listed sort of make me smell a rat, though. Last time I was in Korea, I saw some really BAD fender knock offs.
Squiers were made in Korea years ago, and were alright. But if you look at the image links on the craigslist strat and tele advertisement:

you see that it's hosted by Cranes Music Store. Which is in Cardiff. So...not probably pictures of the actual guitar.
Best,
