|

I have my statewide criminal background check (CA) with me. It is from the California Dept of Justice. I took it in to UPS to get it notarized but they said that they don't have to do it because there is already the state seal on there. So now I have to take it to an apostille. My question is, if we get this background check from the state do we really not have to get it notarized before we take it to the apostille? The guy at UPS really did not know.
Thanks |

I was told by the apostille office that a state level or below CBC needs to be notarized unless it's from the clerk of superior court-. they can stamp it- but it doesnt need to be notarized. i think you should take it to another notary- and say they just need to DO IT!
i had a similar problem getting my diploma notarized- they didnt understand what i wanted. it's just a matter of getting to the right person. or getting to a person who will just listen to what you say and do it because they dont care.
Dont' know if this will help OR if the same is true in CA- but Good luck!

to OP,
yes you still have to get it notarized, go to your local notary public, then send the CBC to sec of state (http://www.sos.ca.gov/business/notary/authentication.htm). Instructions on what to do are at the link I provided. Only if the CBC is notarized will it be eligible for an apostille.
here is the mailing address that can also be found on the website:

I am also from CA, and I just did this last month, gluck =) |
