A middle school principal killed himself Sunday after coming under mounting pressure and criticism for the spread of a video clip showing the bullying of one of his students by other students at the school, police said on Monday. The principal, identified only by his surname Yoon, was found by his wife after he stabbed himself in his chest. Yoon was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, but died on the way from excessive bleeding, according to the police. The police suspect the schoolmaster killed himself as they found no signs of trespassing in the house or signs of resistance by Yoon.
The education office, however, tried to pin the blame on the schoolmaster when a subsequent examination of the video clip revealed that part of the video clip was filmed during a class period. The education office summoned Yoon for two days in a row on Friday and Saturday and released him late Saturday night after hours of intense questioning.
In a news conference on Monday, the provincial education office denied pressuring the deceased during questioning.
