I have no idea why.... had a big allergy attack today. Seems to coincide with trips to Costco at Sanbon sometimes.
Anyone else? |

Are you allergic to fungus (e.g., mold)? Costco might be poorly ventilated, which could encourage the growth of mold in air vents.
Do you have asthma? Cold weather can exacerbate asthma, resulting in allergy/asthma symptoms. |

No asthma.
I woke up with somewhat itchy sinuses today. They got worse after I left Costco. Was teaching at school an hour later, and had to go buy some medicine to take care of the problem. |

Maybe its the stuff on the ceiling when you're taking the escalators to the parking garage. I don't know if that is dust accumulated or a ceiling pattern. |

Have you had any allergy testing done? If you were symptomatic when you woke up, then it's most likely something in your house (e.g., house dust mites, pets, fungus). |

I was in Ho Chi Minh city, land of the million motorbikes, for five days and had nary a sniffle. BAM as soon as I hit Seoul, things go haywire. |

How many Chinese factories are directly upwind of HCMC? Exactly, none.
In the wintertime the systems that hit Korea often come directly from the west and it's actually at times a more toxic soup than the spring sandstorms. |

You think that's it?
I get horrible sinus infections in the winter here and I always thought it was just the cold, dry air combined with my dust mite allergy. It didn't really occur to me that it could be caused by air pollution. Hmm.
HCMC is in a much warmer, more humid climate than Seoul... |

Hey me too. I woke up on Thursday with an incredibly itchy nose and had to take a cetrizine. What's going on? I used my neti-pot and felt better, though. |

Winter-time weather conditions (i.e., cold and dry) favor the growth and propagation of certain viruses. Those same conditions have a negative effect on the body in that they dry and irritate your mucosal membranes. Your body is then less able to protect itself from foreign invaders, such as viruses. Of course, the cold weather also stresses the body, lowering the power of the immune system. On top of that, during cold weather, people tend to stay indoors. Close contact is the easiest way for infectious diseases to be spread. |

Whatever it was, Costco Sanbon is what put it over the top. My most major allergy attacks have both happened on days that I went there. Of course, it could be pollution outside in that area, too. |

If it happened twice, may it been something you ate a Costco? |

Started bothering me before I ate, but I did eat a hotdog (probably both times). Both times I was bothered before eating, though. |
