The guy's 79 years old. Maybe we should just treat him like our old bigot grandpa who no one pays attention to anymore.

Two guys recently climbed Mt. Everest one was 75 and one was 76.
If its shocking that an older person can have strong legs, then a lot of things must be shocking.

Nothing's shocking when you wield the power of the holy spirit!

Robertson has a well-established pattern of gloating over mass deaths. It's what he does.

Gloating and compassion are relatively opposite in definition. The above quote from the link expresses compassion. It seems that one who believes the above words indicate gloating is in need of a thesaurus and dictionary to compare the two words.

Anyway, the New Testament or Covenant doesn't speak of a God that would punish a whole city and all its inhabitants based on doing something Robertson disagrees with.

"They need to have and we need to pray for them a great turning to god and out of this tragedy I'm optimistic something good may come."

According to the linked article, Pat Robertson has not claimed that god punished a whole city and all its inhabitants.
In fact he clearly said the opposite; that the devil is the source of the problem and that turning to god is the solution.

Well, there can be a fine line between gloating and compassion. Robertson's statements essentially amount to saying "I hope that as a result of this awful tragedy, the poor people of Haiti will now come around to my way of thinking, like I've always said they should".

The Florida State University football program's leg press record is 1,335 pounds.

These guys leg press less than 1,335. http://grfx.cstv.com/schools/fsu/graphics/auto/kstew51509.jpg

There's just no way Pat Robertson can leg press 2,000 when no FSU football player has leg pressed over 1,335.

PAT ROBERTSON MAKES ANOTHER PROPHECY (Friday Church News Notes, January 15, 2010, www.wayoflife.org [email protected], 866-295-4143) - In spite of a long string of false prophecies, Charismatic preacher Pat Robertson has made another prediction, that America will become bankrupt in 2010. Actually, he fudged the timing by saying, its coming, and its a question of how fast. Anyone can make a prediction, and that one might be a pretty safe bet somewhere down the road, but Robertsons error is in claiming that God tells him these things. He proved long ago that he is deceived in this. He prophesied for 2007 that America would suffer a mass killing at the hands of terrorists. He prophesied for 2006 that major storms would hit the American east coast and possibly a tsunami in the Pacific Northwest, but no major storm hit either coast that year for the first time in over a decade. For 2005 he predicted that President Bush would experience victory after victory in his second term, when in fact it was a disaster. For 2004 he prophesied that Bush would win the presidential election like a blowout, when in fact he squeaked by with 51% of the vote. For 1988 he prophesied that he would be the next president of the United States; for 1985, a worldwide economic collapse; for 1982, that Russia would invade Israel; for 1980, an economic depression and a major war in the Middle East. None of this happened. The Charismatic movement perpetually discredits itself. It is as much ridiculous as it is heretical, but with truth and eternal souls at stake it must be taken seriously. The Bible says, When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him (Deuteronomy 18:22).

This thread was locked after we received a report about this so someone locked it. We did say we want people to be careful about posts regarding religion because people with or without religious beliefs sometimes go overboard into some major flame war. I don't think this thread was really so bad, IMHO, based on what we've seen in the past.

Obviously, this is a news item. It's generally okay to post a news item if it's not inflammatory. For example, if you post something about a pope beatifying the pope during WWII and as long as your goal is not simply to stir up the pot and find reasons to attack people who believe in Catholicism or the tenets of the faith. It's fine if you say you don't believe in it or whatever.

The point is post news articles and engage each other in a respectful manner. No, you are not banned from posting news items that might be religion related somehow. I hope this helps. For example, if there is a story about what the pope did, and you come up with some insulting title for a thread or you're being a little vicious inside the thread based on religious views, we don't want that. We yank that stuff. And avoid posting things that seem to force a discussion about the tenets of religion and all that nitty gritty. I know it's a grey area, but I think you understand.

We often (but not always (as it depends on how busy we are)) explain why something was locked.

Okay, then let's try something fun. A letter from Satan to Pat Robertson, courtesy NPR:

Dear Pat Robertson,

I know that you know that all press is good press, so I appreciate the shout-out. And you make God look like a big mean bully who kicks people when they are down, so I'm all over that action.

But when you say that Haiti has made a pact with me, it is totally humiliating. I may be evil incarnate, but I'm no welcher. The way you put it, making a deal with me leaves folks desperate and impoverished.

Sure, in the afterlife, but when I strike bargains with people, they first get something here on earth -- glamor, beauty, talent, wealth, fame, glory, a golden fiddle. Those Haitians have nothing, and I mean nothing. And that was before the earthquake. Haven't you seen "Crossroads"? Or "Damn Yankees"?

If I had a thing going with Haiti, there'd be lots of banks, skyscrapers, SUVs, exclusive night clubs, Botox -- that kind of thing. An 80 percent poverty rate is so not my style. Nothing against it -- I'm just saying: Not how I roll.

You're doing great work, Pat, and I don't want to clip your wings -- just, come on, you're making me look bad. And not the good kind of bad. Keep blaming God. That's working. But leave me out of it, please. Or we may need to renegotiate your own contract.

Best, Satan
