i just wonder if apple tv will be as big for hd video/tv on demand as it was for music downlaods on the internet. thats when i think alot of people will question whether the pay off for time spent downloading and cost of storage really is worth it.

Well, hopefully when consumer petabyte drives become somewhat affordable, storage will not be a factor for a good at least a while Razz

Really, though, what do you guys think would be the next step in vid quality over Blu-Ray? Let's say a high quality 1080p (I'm talking from Esir, CtrlHD, and Eureka--the best of the best) averages around 15gbs. And let's say you have 950,000 gb of usable space on a petabyte drive That's like 6300+ movies.

I actually download some movies, shows, etc. that I have absolutely no intent on watching. It's just that it looks like a cool series that perhaps someone else I know would watch, or I enjoyed one movie in a certain genre and think why not just download as many vids in that category as possible.

You know, that's exactly what I do. I liked one song they played at Forever 21, for example, so I looked up the company that created their playlists and downloaded an album or two from every artist on their playlists for the last few years.............................................. I'm sick.

But, what happens when it crashes and dies. Are your back-ups backed up? Laughing

I'm getting paranoid.

Friends:
Love this thread. Some questions, though, from a clearly NEWB torrenter (I d/l but not at this level). Currently I'm in Egypt, and should be coming to Korea for EPIK next month.

1. What is a "seedbox"?
2. In USD, what should I expect to pay for the top speed connection in S. Korea (for home use)? What is that speed?
3. Is bandwith "unlimited"? Here we have "unlimited" up to 60 GB.
4. What is the policy on downloading in Korea? There are no restrictions on it here in Egypt.
5. What, exactly, is BitHQ? Very good torrent site? I tried to register, but needed an invite.
6. Any other thoughts that are relevant?

Cheers!

Congrats on the job!

1. It was explained earlier in this thread
2. ~$35 for a 100mbit connection
3. Yes, unlimited. My stats for the past month on my OWN connection (not over the seedbox) has been 2tb or something
4. No restrictions that I've encountered
5. Wow... well, BitHQ is just one of tens of thousands of private trackers (trackers are sites which host torrent files. Typically, these sites will have faster speeds and tend to have more variety in a specific kind of torrent (ie, TV shows). BitHQ isn't too great, if you look around Google a bit you're bound to find invites to currently open private trackers
6. You said you're not that much of a downloader--I would recommend switching to a decent torrent client, if you aren't already on one. I would personally go with uTorrent. It's super small and compatible with all private trackers I am a member of (40+)

Hope this helps.

1. What is a "seedbox"? A dedicated server connected to the internet with a very large pipe. Typically you can get 100mbit speeds, though getting them consistently has been harder on the cheaper servers.
2. In USD, what should I expect to pay for the top speed connection in S. Korea (for home use)? What is that speed? I paid about $40 for a 100mbit fiber connection, but that was in an apartment building. At my inlaws we paid about the same for 80mbit cable modem internet.
3. Is bandwith "unlimited"? Here we have "unlimited" up to 60 GB. UNLIMITED
4. What is the policy on downloading in Korea? There are no restrictions on it here in Egypt. No restrictions.
5. What, exactly, is BitHQ? Very good torrent site? I tried to register, but needed an invite. It is a DVD tracker, IMO one of the best out there. Yes it is invite only.
6. Any other thoughts that are relevant? Not really. If you can prove you have a good ratio on other torrent sites, getting invites to private sites shouldn't be too hard.

Cheers!
