Interesting strategy yingwenlaoshi. AZ and BALT to win, yet the favorites (NO/IND) to cover...

Is that impossible? I'm not too informed on how the spread works. Doesn't it have to do with betting? Like how people will bet rather than who wins?

Yes, it would be impossible.

Points are given to the underdogs to make the betting more difficult, or so that there is more likely to be a fairly equal number of bets placed on each team.

For example, take the AZ/NO game. If bets were taken on this game without any points given (and the bet paid equal money to the amount wagered), then the vast majority would likely bet on NO (way too easy to win money). So, oddsmakers will give the underdogs points. The oddsmakers give AZ 7 points, so it is written as NO -7 (or sometimes AZ +7). In this example, if you took NO to win, NO would have to win by 8 or more points for you to win your bet (cover the spread). If you bet NO, and NO won by 6 points or less, you would lose the bet. On the other hand, if you bet AZ to win, you would win the bet if NO won by 6 points or less, or obviously if AZ won the game outright.

I think I know what you meant to do, but you just had it backwards. If you think that the favorite will win, but it will be a close game, you would want to pick the underdog on the spread bet (take the points).

I hope that makes sense. Also, because we are just playing for fun, I'm pretty sure nobody will be upset that I'm helping you out.
Enjoy the games!

Ok, I changed it. I briefly researched spreads las week and I got confused. Of course it's by how much a team loses/wins by.
