Hi,
my stint is just about over here in Korea, I'm hoping to get some bar recommendations for a farewell party. I expect a little over 20 people to come (even ratio of foreigners to koreans, not all are coming at exactly the same time)
my criteria:
1. no reservations needed
2. not an izakaya, soju bar, etc...I'd like something where we can all sit down at a long table and chat with each other over bottles of whiskey
3. not excessively loud music
4. no korean pop
5. preferably in Sinchon, but I'm flexible.
6. pay-as-you-drink system. i really don't want to divy up the bill at the end of it, especially since people will be coming and going.
i went to Yaletown in Sinchon a few weeks ago and had a good time, but i'm worried that place is a bit small. iPub is expensive and tacky, but I may have to compromise. |

IF you're talking about Sinchon near Yonsei university, there's a "Beer Time" there that's owned by a Canadian guy, or guys...don't ask me for directions though, that place is hard to navigate if you've only been there a few times. |

It' Beer O'Clock actually. If you walk out out Sinchon station towards Yonsei, make a left at that 4 way intersection, when you get to the first intersection go right, there will be a mart on the right. Go down to the second street that "T"s up make a left. You should see it. |

Korean Traditional Sound is a really neat spot. They have walls of records and play LPs of old sixties korean garage bands. They're partway between Sinchon and Hongdae stations. Lemme know if you'd like directions! |

Does Beer O'Clock sell bottles of whiskey? I've only been there once, and they had cheap draft beer and great hot wings, but I don't remember if they had liquor. You can call ahead and ask. If they do, that's your best bet.
Here is their website: http://www.beeroclock.ca/
Another possible place you could have a party, where I know for a fact that they have (relatively) cheap liquor bottle sets, is HO Bar. The music is mostly American hip-hop (I can't promise they won't mix in a little Korean pop though). The music is loudish I guess but not too loud to talk. Long tables, pay as you drink, and no reservations needed. There are like ten of them in Hongdae, I'm sure you've at least seen one before.
There's also a place called DEUTSCHES HAUS in Hongdae (across from the 7/11 by Joker Red, Gogos, etc.) that's pretty spacious, not too loud, and has great German beer, if that's up your alley. Not sure if they have whiskey by the bottle though. |
