I am looking to goto Korea in August and am trying to get a feel for the job, pay, living situations, etc.
I have a teaching degree (in math) and one years teaching experience as well as three years of tutoring experience (again not in ESL, math)
It seems that a completely inexperienced brand new teacher in Korea is looking at 2.0-2.3M
Should I be looking for more? How much more? What is fair?
I don't know if it is relevant or not, but I am looking for a job in Seoul
Any help would be nice! Thanks. |

Sorry to state the obvious, but just in case....
Have you looked into international schools? A certified math teacher would probably fare better in one of those than in a regular ESL gig in Korea. |

I have looked into it a bit. It seems that there are fewer jobs there. And most require 2 years of experience, not just one.
Does an Education degree even help much if it's not in english? |

Well that'll be my first preference for sure!
I've got four schools in Seoul that I can apply too.
Nothing like the hundreds (thousands?) of jobs available for english teachers.
If anyone knows any reference sites that list international schools...it would be helpful! |

You'd probably have much better luck actually attending a job fair. I would find it hard to believe if the majority (or even many) of international school jobs are done over the internet. Google search something to that affect, and even search through the N. America/Newbie/General forums (non Korean ones) on this site. I've seen a list of schools and job fairs but don't have time to go look for it now. |

Perhaps I could get some insight on international schools in Korea. I get the feeling that most of them are Christian based and, perhaps a little fanatical that way?
I am a Christian myself, but believe that it's intensely personal, and that I have no business beating people over the head with the bible while yelling "The truth hurts" 
Anyways, I get the idea that I may not fit in at these "Christian" schools...
Any insight on this, or am I sensationalizing this? |

I am very interested in your situation -
I am a qualified maths teeacher and I am returning to South Korea in April (taught there 2003-2006).
Really hoping to be able to continue using my maths too - so if I come up with anything - I will let you know !!! |
