Staying in/near a ski resort in Korea?

Hey guys,

I really fancy a solid 5, 7 or 10 day skiing holiday in Korea, but all I've read here is about one-day trips.

Any info on where would be a cheap place to stay near a slope (or only an hour away), and maybe package deals for a week etc?

Any help much appreciated.

Hey bro,

The most convenient (but most expensive) way to stay for a while is stay at the lodgings that the resorts provide. Pyongyang for instance has hostel rooms that start at 70,000 Won a night and have room for five people. A little trade secret I've learned, though, is rent equipment and rent rooms from outside the resort. Every resort has about forty ski-shops lined up one after another that will rent equipment for cheaper than the actual resorts and provide you with rental rooms (called "pensions"). The best part is, that the two times I've done this, the employees would ferry us back and forth from the resort, to our pension, to the ski shop whenever we called them. You'll even most likely get a discount on your lift tickets just for renting from them.

The hard part is that you have to go through naver in Korean to get a hold of these places. Best bet is find a Korean buddy to do it for you. I highly recommend Yongpyong by the way, pretty big resort and the hotel bar is wonderful. Cheers.

If you're after 7-10 days skiing you'd probably be better off heading to Japan, where you'll find proper snow, less shopping malls, other people that can ski, less crowded runs, decent apres ski (onsens!), better beer, etc etc.

Agreed for betters skiing. BUT. Much more expensive. It's worth the extra coin though.

I can't think of any slope in korea that i would want to spend 7 days on. It would bore the hell out of me.

I'm not sure that it's that much more expensive! I just did two weeks in Niseko, and didn't spend too much. Accommodation was around 900,000 won for 14 nights in a double room. Lift tickets around 700 won for 12 days skiing/boarding. OK you have flights on top of that, but for 10 days I can't see it all working out to be much more expensive than 10 days skiing in Korea.

Saying that how do you get to High 1 from Seoul? Is it far? Are there buses from Sinchon? Looks alright for a weekend.

High 1 has a few ways of getting there, expresses buses from sinchon, the train from seoul station or normal buses from east seoul bus terminal (dong something). the east bus terminal is the cheapest and runs every hour or so.

take the one to gohan (singohan) and then a 5 minute taxi to the ski shops (they will drop you off at the mountain and pick you up for free). It takes between 3 hours and 9 hours (depending on traffic and weather) with an average of about 3 and a half hours

I think maybe 7 days at one resort may be too much. Maybe I'll got for 2 days to a couple of different resorts.

I want to stay on the Korean mainland really.

High 1 looks really strange, but quite a few runs. Also, very quiet - how come? What day did you go on?

Is there snow up north now? I'm in Busan and it's quite temperate.

there are also webcams to check out (only works in ie)

Those photos are from the morning after boxing day. The reason why it was empty was those are the more advanced slopes (Victoria) and there was almost no one using them, the rest of the mountain was pretty busy

Any idea about prices?

I think there's a town nearby, I suppose there are pensions (cheap places to stay) there?
