Is it legal for a hagwon to classify an E-2 as a business contractor in order to avoid paying into pension and National Health Insurance? It seems as though many are doing it and getting away with it. |

Thanks very much for clearing that up. Those were my suspicions all along.
However, I'd like to hear more from people who DO NOT have pension and medical deducted. Why is this? Are you on an E2 visa? Did you make some sort of arrangement with your school? Are you losing money because of it? |

I've been here for 4 months and my school takes out neither pension or insurance. Frankly, I'd rather not have insurance, the doctors here are cheap enough without it and I lived in the US without insurance for the past 4 years which is far larger risk... |
Unless you're independently wealthy and can self-insure, it's a foolish gamble to go without health insurance. Anybody could get hit by a truck or develop cancer or something. |

Anyone could get hit by a truck, but does that justify the expense of health insurance. In a country where that would bankrupt you five ways from Sunday it's a pretty big risk, but one that I'm comfortable taking (living is a risky business), but in a country where a week's stay in a hospital is about 2000 it's unnecessary from my POV. It's just a subject that you have to judge that on your personal risk/reward value matrices. I just want to say thank you for the help, I now have all the ammo I need to go and get my pension. |

Health insurance is only about 2.54% of your monthly salary. And since the two are tied, you might not be able to get your pension without back paying anyway. |
