I've decided to watch The Sopranos again. Along with The Wire, TV has never been so good, and I think it will be a long time before anything matches these shows. |
Agreed. You watch those two shows and think how can tv possibly get any better. |
Hey, don't get me wrong, The Sopranos is a great series, and it no doubt paved the way for a lot of the other great series. But personally, I think Deadwood is the best thing I have ever watched on TV, and it beats most movies as well. |

Curb Your Enthusiasm is a must. It took me two episodes to really "get it," but once that happened... oh boy! |

Yup, Sopranos is my desk warming activity this year. I watched most of it when it ran on TV, but missed plenty. So, filling in the gaps is quite fulfilling. |

The TNT show "Leverage" is also pretty good and underrated... It's on AFN Prime tonight at 8pm, for anyone who wants to check it out. |

Shamless and Skins from Channel 4 in Britain are excellent dramas to follow also. |

Gotta re-post Homicide:Life on the Street. Fans of 'The Wire' and 'Oz' need to watch this, particularly the first 5 seasons. It's the show that gave birth to both. Clark Johnson, who directed much of The Wire was one of the cast members, as was Richard Belzer as John Munch (SVU). It was also one of the few 'non-black' shows to have multiple African-American cast members who had distinctly different personalities. The First season cast also had Ned Beatty, Daniel Baldwin, Jon Polito, and most importantly, Andre Braugher. Great guest stars in major roles- Robin Williams as a victim's husband, Steve Buscemi as a racist sociopath, and Vincent D'Onofrio as a man trapped between a subway. Gritty, Funny, Quotable. Also every cast member but Munch is seen with a cig at some point. A rarity on TV.
EDIT- Yes, Deadwood was definately King of HBO. Probably overall the best show of the 2000s...maybe only matched by Firefly. 90s- Homicde and Trek TNG, DS9, and The X-Files. |

Band of Brothers is one of the greatest things committed to film.
Flight of the Conchords, Curb Your Enthusiasm and East Bound & Down are essential 00s comedy.
Oh yeah. Arrested Development is probably as important as The Wire. |
Props to BOB and CYE...brilliant stuff. Larry David is insane..almost hard to watch sometimes he's so neurotic.
As for Arrested Development...whatever moron(s) canceled that show should be lined up against a wall..
Lest I forget Fawlty Towers as well..for a little old school flavour |

Dexter and Glee are my two new favorites. Mad Men and Big Love are the old two.
Glee just won a SAG for best ensemble comedy. It's a show about passionate teachers and kids chasing their dreams. Fantastic talent even if they did cast 20 yo's for teens.
Michael C. Hall's wiping up with awards for Dexter. And Mad Men took best drama ensemble. Love that cast too! Big Love wasn't even mentioned--wonder why? The Golden Globes didn't snub them like that. At least they had some nominations there. |

Has it gotten any better? I watched the first episode and it made me SO sad. Those guys need to leave plot alone and get back to sketch comedy, where they're almost untouchable. |
