Hey everyone. I was thinking of accepting a job in Cheongju. The working hours are from 2 to 10 but I was worried that this would mean no time to explore the city during the week and the days would feel like 14 hour days. I'm from Canada where restaurants close at 10 or 11 and bars close at 2am. Would it be like this over in Korea? Or would I still be able to go out to restaurants/catch a movie after work and so on. What do you guys think? All the job offers I've received so far are from 1 to 9 or 2 to 10 so I don't know if I should hold out for a 10am to 6pm job. (Experience would be better at the 2 to 10pm whereas 10am to 6pm would be almost like babysitting, I assume at least). What do you think?

I don't know about your city, but many parts of Korea don't shut down till 4AM.

It seems prime eating and early drinking hours are 6-9. 10+ is for whoever survives the blackout and goes again or is just getting released from work.

You should be able to find something.

I don't know Cheongju but around me small bars will pretty much stay open till people stop ordering. you can eat out till well after midnight and bars are busy nearly 7 days a week

That's pretty good news. I prefer sleeping pretty late and waking up later on so as long as there's something to do after work I should be pretty happy. I guess there would be plenty of teachers who have the same schedule as well. Thanks for the help. I can't wait!

10pm is a bit late. 9pm still leaves time for dinner and imo 2pm-8pm is the best for maximizing free daytime and nighttime activities.

Yea 10 is a bit late. This job is a 40 hour work week which is 10 too many I think. And I plan to come to work and enjoy!

Yea I guess I'll be happy wherever I go. I'll try and avoid the Gochu in the eyes though I'll carry a couple around as I love spicy food!
There's just so many options out there, large cities, small cities, which are still pretty huge actually. Have you guys ever heard of the paradox of choice? It applies huge for choosing a job in Korea (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VO6XEQIsCoM)

Thoughts on Cheongju, or Masan, or Daejeon, or Gimhae, or Jinju? These are places where I have offers or an interview coming up shortly.

I've been offered a position at a Topia School. It is a new school just opening in March. I've heard that I should avoid new schools but this is a franchise where I've heard mixed reviews. Thoughts anyone?

I used to work gawdawful split shifts in Cheong ju. My first class began at 6:30 am, and the last ended around 9:30 pm. My co-workers and I often went out to dinner after work in the evenings, and we watched the sun rise from the bar more than once too. You've got nothing to worry about.

Cheong ju is very much a college town, lots of venues for live music and it's close enough for a day trip to Seoul, while still having a somewhat close knit foreign community.

op welcome to my world. . . sure you can hve a life, but at wht cost? im too tired after working a 7 class day to go out...but i can if i wanted to. so if you are not too tired then sure, you can do it
