Hey, I was thinking about taking a job in a school which is just opening in March on Cheongju. It's a Topia franchise. I am weary to joing a new school because I can't even ask a previous teacher about their experience there. Does anyone have any insight into this issue

I personally wouldn't want to. Could be that whoever is opening the franchise already owns another one and knows what they are doing. But this could also be their first venture into the game, which is scary. Every student they lose (and students do leave, no matter what you do) will be a new horrifying thing for them, and you might get the blame.

And the number of students will be up in the air as well. You could have a very light schedule, or they could underestimate the number of incoming students and you could be stuck teaching a million classes.

Of course, it could be great. It really is a crap shoot. You a risk taker?

I did for my first contract, don't recommend it. I always had a light schedule, but the thing is that it was meant to get heavier but never did. Actually they were LOSING parents because they did stupid things like not give notice to parents that teachers were leaving until the day before the left (this happened twice within two weeks and a ton of parents left), and though when I first got there they were super super nice, when parents left they started getting really really nasty towards all the foreigners.

They also weren't getting new people to come because they decided that they weren't going to advertise cause it cost money. Finally, I think the only students they had left were all voucher students (the ones who got some sort of financial help from the government to attend).

If you are experienced in Korea then go for it.

If you are a newbie to Korea then stay away from it.

New school + new teacher = recipe for disaster.
