So external media has come a long way and getting bigger, faster and more efficient.

So the common SD cards are appernetly being replaced with something called an SDXC which is capable of the following;

up to 2TB in size
Maximum transfer rate of 304mb a second.

So the other day I was thinking of changing my PC to make it as silent as possble, the HDD was probably the biggest issue until I thought of the option of using an SD card as your HDD.

I don't know if it's possible but if it does work, it would be amazing and completely eliminate HDD sound.

What are your thoughts?

What you're describing is essentials what SSD hard drives are. SSD stands for solid state drive and the technology already exists, although a bit more pricey than traditional hard drives.

SD-cards may not be a good choice. Yes, they may be fast but what about the latency and IOPS? I recommend that you get a good SSD instead. Here's a link to a thread that has tons of info about SSD's. If you have a question and the guys don't know it there, no one does! ^^

I replaced my MBP's 160GB 5400RMP HDD with Intel's x25-m 160GB. Although my laptop is quite old (2007) with only a SATA 150 interface, it got a lot faster. Yup. faster, lighter, cooler, longer battery operation time...

The thing I really like is how quiet it is now. Actually, the laptop is so quiet that I just noticed how my external Samsung 22" LCD emits this annoying high electronic sound!

Yah I know about SSDs, I also know about their price tags T.T

I guess SD cards just aren't efficient enough to run from yet >_<!
