|
|
My friend is in need of some advice regarding a summons she has received to go to Immigration. I'll make it short, though I am pretty sure what the situation is I guess she just wants to know 'what to expect' when she goes there. She is a student here in Korea and has been for sometime, and has been on a D-4-4 visa for pretty much the entire time. Basically she applied at SNU for the Winter semester, but for some personal reasons she couldn't attend and ended up changing it to Spring. By this time, she had already extended her D4 with the Winter application papers provided by SNU. However, after that, she had to cancel - SNU told her that 'they would extend her application' to Spring. I am guessing that they reported the cancellation to Immigration without mentioning it to her. So, I am assuming that is why she is being summoned. Has anyone else been in this situation and may have some insight into what to expect? Will she be fined?
Btw: She has her application papers for the Spring semester now.
PS: I think the immigration laws here are total [Mod Edit] when it comes to students. |

So does no one have any information regarding this particular visa infraction? I wouldn't like to think she'd get fined. |

happened to my friend as well.
She was supposed to pay a fine, 100,000 won I think, but then she never had any problems before so they just let her have a warning, anyway she was here to study Korean, and finally left last month. |

Can the university help by explaining the situation to immigration? |

Seems to me like something she could work out with SNU. Like a letter to provide evidence. |

I told her, when she goes there, to give Immigration the phone number of SNU's office at the language institute so they can call and confirm with them the delay of the semester. |
