|
|
Sellers beware- I had something for sale and got a couple of responses that were scams.
One was a woman claiming to represent an international company who she claimed hired her as a buyer and said she would be sending her son for the purchase.
The other was a paypal scam. A man insisted on paying by paypal and wanted me to sign up. He said he was a marine engineer on a ship and wanted to give his brother a surprise birthday gift. He was going to pay me more than I was asking. I googled part of his letter which was almost identical to this posted scam:
http://www.fordforums.com.au/printthread.php?t=11282290
Watch out for this information:
His name on the e-mail is Mathew Visent and his e-mail address is:[email protected]
After I told him that I do not have PayPal and can not get it here, he wanted to wire me the money and asked me for my banking information. That is a second way to carry out the scam.
In both cases I insisted on cash and haven't heard back from either of them. Please be cautious. I have posted this only to serve as a precaution to sellers and buyers.

I've dealt with this guy/gal I think. I was trying to sell my PS3 and games and got a sob story to say it was for his son in another country. He offered to pay over the asking price too.
The deal didn't go through. |

I've bought many things on here using paypal so this kinda sucks for people like me. The reason I use paypal is because I have funds in there that I can't otherwise use in this country, I can't take them out into my K-Bank account and mostly when I try and pay for something online it states "we do not accept paypal payments from your country"
So yeah, these scammers ruin it for everyone sadly. |

Only deal with Paypal people with "Confirmed" addresses. Those transactions are protected by Paypal's fraud protection. |

i usually get paypal scammers from posting on craigslist and their usually mass mailers so they wont take the time to look on forums like this. my recommondation is that if someone offers u more money (especially when you havent even negotiated anything) or they want you to send it to another country then back out. also if you get an email asking about the price and if its still available they havent even looked at your post its just mass mailing scam |

I wish Paypal would fix their international system. My Korea address in Paypal is "Unconfirmed" because my cards are US based, therefore only a US address can be confirmed (so I use my PO Box) But so far on eBay, it hasn't been an issue |

I can't even get paypal to add a Korean address, it's very annoying. It seems it takes what looks like would be weeks worth of hassle involving passports, ARC, visa, utility bills, etc., just to get an address here added. |

If you're communicating via Dave's instead of email, just check out their post numbers. You can't fully protect yourself in any kind of financial transaction, but you can protect yourself from these types of scams. |

I have had no problem adding my Korean address to my paypal account. It is not my primary address, but it is one of my addresses and I have had items shipped directly from the eBay seller to my Korean paypal address without any problems so far. Maybe it depends how old your account is or something. |

Been trying to sell the car, and the Korean sites warn of scams where they offer to pay you part of the cash (obviously a scam) and the rest later. Others warn of out-of-town scammers who want to purchase your vehicle and ship it overseas.
That same guy mentioned above replied to all of my craigslist sales ads, too. Same story, but his son was stationed overseas. I wish there was a way to burn these people somehow. |

So if you give them your account number what is the scam?
We give out account numbers all the time and if the bank allows anything
other than a deposit without confirming identification then it's on them. |

Really? I've had my account for the better half of a decade and I still can't add my Korean address to my PayPal account. And I'm a Verified Premier member. |

Are you talking about a billing address or a shipping address? My shipping address is still my parents' house in the States, but my shipping addresses include that US address as well as my Korean address. |
