I want to see this but it is not playing in my area. Either that or it has come and gone? I'm in Bundang.
There is a site which lists movies and times in English someone started a while back. I bookmarked it on my old computer. Can anyone tell me where they saw it, or where it is playing?
There was a thread for this movie but I can't find that with the search function either. |

Its still playing in Yongsan. I saw it a few weeks ago in Hongdae.
Its very similar to the book except the ending is a bit happier! |

It makes "No Country For Old Men" look like the feel good movie of the year. |

Thanks Stalin! (Feels a little strange writing that...)
I read the book recently. More challenging than most to make into a movie I thought. I'll try to make it to Yongsan if I can't find it elsewhere.

It's all in Korean, but it's very easy to figure out with even remedial Korean skills. |

Happier???? Having your dad die and then having a hippie mother and father come and 'take you' is happy? I think it was all depressing. But actually I thought that hippie guy at first was going to try to kill him.
Oh, did you think they were the people who were 'chasing' them when they were in the shelter and heard the dog? I thought it was crazy to leave that safe food haven just because they heard a dog!! |

Anyway, the ending was happier in the movie than in the book. In the book there was only one guy and the kid didn't really seem to know whether he could trust him or not and decided to take a leap of faith. In the movie, it was made very clear that he would be well taken care of afterwards (and they hinted at the existance of a new civilization of sorts). |

I had the feeling - and yes, don't read this if you haven't seen the movie/read the book - that there was really no hope for anyone in the future this story envisions.
If the boy had tried to live by himself, I had the impression he would not have survived. Although the story was unusual - compared to other end of the world stories (War Day, On the Beach, I am Legend - Omega Man, etc.) in that it had little back story or explanation as to what happened - I was left with the distinct impression that the human race wouldn't be clawing its way back from this one.
This, to me, was what made the relationship between the boy and his father so poignant and powerful - the entire point of the book in my opinion. The father couldn't bring himself to give up hope for the boys sake. Neither could he give his son a painless death. His only option was to go on. The son senses this partway through the book.
As a reader, I felt that there was no hope, even though the boy survived and seemed to find people to take care of him. There was a current of uncertainty - to say the least - throughout the whole book. With the last conversation the boy has, the author doesn't let up.
I'm not surprised the film seems to finish with a happier ending. Typical.
The whole book - both the spare style in story and in the lack of normal punctuation - has a feeling of a purely internal experience. I want to see how the director translates this to film. |

Who's directing? They've been trying to make a movie out of Blood Meridian for forever.
Great book. |
