|
|
I'm currently looking at Gwanak-gu and Seocho-gu as possibilities for 'greener' neighborhoods in Seoul that are pedestrian friendly, villas (instead of tall commie blocks), have nice family restaurants, food markets, cafes, close to hiking trails and an overall pleasant atmosphere.
It seems neighborhoods around SEOUL NATIONAL UNIVERSITY STATION, NAKSEONGDAE STATION, SADANG STATION, BANGBAE STATION, and SEOCHO STATION would fit the bill.
Anyone live in these areas and able to provide their thoughts?
I'd also be curious how to find a furnished sublet as well as more permanent apartment in these areas.
Thanks. |

hmmm, the place you describe doesn't really sound like Seoul.
But have a look behind Nakseongdae exit 1. Some of those places are alright, especially as you get closer to gwanak san.
No parking though, which is a stress.
Bangbae is good, but expensive, ditto for Seocho.
Have you thought of Gwacheon? Around Namtaeryong, and Sanbawi (both line 4) it looks alright. Dunno about cafes and restaurants though in that area though |

the only thing green about those places is the color of the subway line. i fyou want true green, gotta go to the burbs. Like 구리 or 용인. |

Ewww. Guri?
Gag.
Northern Seoul or further east than Guri. Try Onam, Hopyoung or Pyeongnae. Further still you might try Deokso or Dosim or further. |

well to be fair i've never actually been to Guri... seoul boundaries are as far as i've gone... might as well be the edge of the universe.
i hear bad things about Guri though. i heard they have a Guri tower that looks like Seoul Tower except it's only 4 stories high? haha |

And its located next to a trash dump/recycling center. It's also like a good half mile away from the water - so it's majestic four stories get you a clear view of the container town next to the highway. |

That's basically just where all the other foreigners go anyway.
The first two pictures even look like Noksapyeong.
To avoid the last picture - don't go anywhere south of the Han river or anything that was settled less than 50 years ago. |

Is Hannam-dong similar to the first two pics by any chance? |

It's got a bit of both. More commie closer to the river - more slummy further up towards Itaewon. |

Nakseongdae would fit the bill. We live right behind Nakseongdae station exit one, in a villa-like arrangement. It takes about 10 minutes to get into some nice hiking (looking a bit like your first picture) and there's a market like in your second picture just about 2 minutes away.
When are you looking to move? We're subletting a partially furnished place that may be available in early March (we're moving, but don't know what the owner plans to do with it). |

Check out Kyungnidan, near Noksaypyeong station. I live about halfway up the hill and it's a 10 minute hike to the base and a one hour hike to the top of Namsan, the largest, most central mountain in Seoul. Once you're up there, the air is a bit fresher, and there are tons of trails, miniparks, and places to just relax. |

Hey there,
Actually I'm hoping to sublet a place for at least 3 months starting end of February/early March so that would be perfect.
But we're looking for a 3 bedroom 1/2 bath...or at least 2 large bedrooms.
Would be great if you could PM me with more info. |

Hey, looks like I can't PM with more posts but thanks for your PM.
I think that would be too small as there are 3 of us unfortunately
If you hear of anything larger by any chance, please do let me know if you can. Would really appreciate it.
It's just for a few months so I'm willing to go over budget if I can find a nice place near that area. |

those pictures look like haebangcheon. A foreigner friendly, older housing style (not sky-rises), fun area to be. Close enough to itaewon to be fun durring the day, but far enough to be safe at night. |
