I have seen this before and I can't seem to find it buried in past posts. Can someone enlighten me again on the Korean Business Licence Number. I ask a recruiter - teacheslkorea.com - for theirs and they said they are a Canadian company and the Korean schools wire money to them so they don't need a number. I just want to make sure that is correct. www.teacheslkorea.com seems like a good site/company but I haven't heard anyone talk about it yet.
THANKS!! |

They could be correct.
But if they are based in Canada, they also need certification that they can run a business. |

You don't need to have any training or specialization in recruiting to get a business license in Korea. You just need to be a registered business and be allocated a number.
This number is more about tax and legal matters for owning a company in Korea and conducting trade rather than any guarantee the 'company' will know what they are doing as recruiters.
For teachers knowing a registration number helps eliminate the cellphone quick fix cash recruiters that will be operating as a job on the side.
Any recruiter with their head office in another country such as Canada cannot obtain a Korean company registration without strong Korean company joint partnership. They must then operate with a compnay registration in their own country. (if they are legitimate companies that is !)
you need to ask the Canadian company what type of legal registration as a company they have in Canada.
A good number of recruiters (Western and Korean) operate from impressive websites they can easily make, but many are not even real companies and often know very little about recruiting, but are keen to set up a new business.
Korean recruiters are very good at claiming long tenure as recruiters and building websites with misleading history. Also Korean recruiters can tend to change their English names from Kenny Lee to Daniel Lee or Peter Lee as they change the compnay they work with, and this can mean you can't check their personal history anyway. |

Getting a business license isn't the problem for recruiters in Korea as getting a business license isn't very difficult but there is a completely separate recruiter's license that is required. Getting one is somewhat difficult as there are different requirements.
Overall I've worked with TEK though and they are solid people there and as a teacher wouldn't worry about working with them. |
