I've looked at several recruiting websites, but I'm a little nervous to use them since I don't have any references. Can anyone suggest a good recruiter? Daegu is my preferred city, if that makes a difference. |

I just went to the job section here and emailed all the recruiters that had websites and a clearly displayed business number. I ended up using JJ Recruitment. They posted a large list of job openings and got me the one I asked to interview for. Everything has gone smoothly to this point. They helped me get contract changes that I wanted and answered all my questions quickly. |

I joined a lot of recruiting agencies when looking for a job (maybe 12 or more).
Although I didnt end up taking a job with JJ Recruitment, I also found their service one of the best. Quick replies, took my preferences into consideration, no pressure and didnt mind me turning down jobs etc... I worked with Jessica.
Also AppleTree recruiting, ATOP and a recruiter called Charles Park were pretty decent. |

Don't worry too much about the recruiter focus on the jobs they have available. If any recruiter ever tries to force you to sign with a school you are not comfortable with drop him/her immediately.
There are thousands of recruiters who will want your business. Remember, a recruiter is not your boss. They are supposed to be working for you.
Also, if any recruiter asks for money walk away immediately. The school pays them, not you! |

I know people do not like recruiters, but honestly, Joyce Kim from Korvia is a wonderful person and found work for me, and several of my friends... check out her site at www.korvia.com |

Does anyone know Ann Park from Korvia? She's the one I'm talking to. She seems nice and helpful, but we only have had one conversation so if anyone has worked with her before I'd be interested to hear your opinion of her. |

Please let me repeat an old post of mine.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Really, when it comes to a recruiter, who cares?
A recruiter is nothing more than an introduction to an employer.
REPEAT: A recruiter is nothing more than an introduction to an employer.
Hello Mr. English speaker this is Mr Hakwon owner.
Mr. hakwon owner, this is Mr. English speaker.
Mr. English speaker, here is the contract. Please read and sign.
School, here is the signed contract. Pay me.
Good bye.
-You are not paying them anything (or you shouldn't be).
-THEY DO NOT WORK FOR YOU! - They work for the school.
-They owe you nothing once you get here.
-They are not your friend.
-They are not your baby sitter.
-They cannot help you if things go to *beep* after you get here.
Beyond that it is YOUR responsibility to check the school out.
Do NOT trust ANY recruiter. They are like used car salesmen. They will lie and sell their soul to get the signature on the contract.
Do your own DUE DILLIGENCE in regards to the school or get burned.
Use the recruiters for what they are. Use more than one and keep going until you get what you want. There is no rush and there is certainly no shortage of jobs.
When it comes to the school - again - repeat - Do your own DUE DILLIGENCE.
1st - READ the contract over very carefully. If that doesn't scare you away then...
The best you can do is minimize the risk by talking to MORE THAN ONE of the foreign staff by phone AND e-mail and ask POINTED AND SPECIFIC QUESTIONS (*when the boss is NOT listening over their shoulder). Don't accept non-specific answers and broad generalizations.
No foreign staff references to talk (directly and via e-mail) to = walk away now. (the exception to this rule would be a public school since you may not know which school until long after the recruiter is out of the picture).
Accept NO EXCUSES for any reason. |

I agree with almost everything that ttompatz has to say except with maybe a less cynical view of recruiters.
Some have been very easy to work with and very helpful in getting a job while others have been completely useless and just a waste of my in-box space.
So use them for what they are and that should be job offers.
I've taken jobs mostly in Busan so rbikorea and esljobkorea were great at offering jobs.
And like ttompatz says, I did my checks and got good jobs. |
