It is the kind of put down that a person older than, say, 33 or, dare I type it, a distant cousin of The Penn Fam, hears when they feck ep: "UPenn!!"

I musta be connected to 'em 'cause I forgot to finish with this: "USeanPenn!"

I hope that this is better and what not. Get back to moi if it isn't.

As charming as always,

DI

Yep, had to edit it four freakin' times...Um hmmm... Total Penn moves or what, my Dear Readers?

I'm just curious KoreanAmbition, which schools would you consider to be the best in Canada? Before I'd even considered going to McGill I had the impression it was one of the top schools in the country. And in casual comparison with friends who did similar programs at UBC and other big schools, I've always felt pretty happy with the level of my education. I'll give U of T props, I think it's probably the better school, honestly.

McGill was certainly good enough for all the prep school trust-fund American kids I was surrounded by.

I don't think I've had a single moment of school spirit in my life until now, but you're starting to bring it out in me. Wink

An assit to Mr Pink and some perspective on this university ranking in Canada deal..

Quote:
Following are some of the rankings of Top 10 universities in Canada:

National Rank, (World Rank), Name

(24) University of Toronto

(3Cool University of British Columbia

(61) University of Alberta

(62) Simon Fraser University

(63) Universit de Montreal

(69) University of Calgary

(91) Mcgill University

(94) University of Waterloo

(110) Universit Laval

(113) York University

Source: Webomerics Ranking 2009

Top Ten List from THE - QS World University Rankings 2009:
1 Mcgill University
2 University of Toronto
3 UBC
4 University of Alberta
5 Universit de Montreal
6 Waterloo
7 Queen's University
8 Mcmaster University
9 University of Calgary
10 The University of Western Ontario

and..

http://www.4icu.org/ca/

McGill ranks #4 on that list. U of Toronto is #1.

Also...

From Mcleans in 2009.....

They rank according to funding, program offerings and several other factors...check it out at:

http://oncampus.macleans.ca/education/2009/11/05/our-19th-annual-rankings/

They rank Universities realistically and in several categories so McGill can be #1 in some field while UBC will be #1 in another.

That to me is the best way to rank institutions.

So McGill is the best in some fields while University of Toronto is better in others....

Or keep fighting to see who is the undisputed champ of the Canuck Unis... Wink

I think Asda do a pack of 10 pens for 79p. I'm gonna go have a look.

KoreanAmbition, you went to Concordia, didn't you? Very Happy Rolling Eyes

Where did that list come from that put University of Calgary way up in the rankings? That's just weird.

I didn't go to McGill, but I would have wanted to go there is I knew it was cool enough to name a building after William Shatner Razz

The list I was looking at was the one that Patrick quoted McGill as being ranked #1 in Canada.

Just a word of thanks to you young twits who have turned this thread into a moronic debate about who's been to the best university in Canada.

I hope none of you did indeed go to McGill or Toronto because that then would be an awful indictment of those places in the same way that some hairdressers can personally be the worst advertisements for their own services.

But you do us all a favour. The original posters would outdo even you for pointless ignorant vacuousness and arrogance of almost biblical proportions.

The OP and his early respondents - a string of young, spoilt, snobbish and seemingly unstoppable morons lined up to swap ideas on how to "prepare the way" for some young prince, soon to arrive in Korea and how he might best fleece the Korean education market for as much gold as possible for a year or two before swanning back home in a private jet.

A 26 year old from UPenn, we are told, should be chairlifted by the rest of us into the best EFL teaching job in Korea while eating a bunch of grapes and being fanned by a dozen nubile young maidservants - all for having a degree from a famous school in the United States.

Move aside disciples of Nunan, Ellis, Thornbury and Krashen!
Step away all you Phd Linguistics and MATesols!
To the back of the queue all you MEds, BEds, PGCEs, Deltas and Celtas! Been in Korea for years and years?
Kindly resign your lofty well-paid positions because...wait for it....

...a young gentleman from the University of Pennysylvania is about to arrive.

If this is what an Ivy league degree turns you into, you are more than welcome to it!

Priceless...

withnail, for an Englishman, you're sure not picking up the self-deprecating sarcasm that I'm putting out there.

Unless it lends some cache to a resume or gets me a higher pay-rate, I honestly don't care whether I went to "the best university in Canada" or not. We all know that's just like saying "I learned French at the best academy in Uzbekistan" anyways.

The Shatner building. I always forget about the profound ramifications of having attended a school with a Shatner building.

Or maybe it's the banjo thing. I could run through some Aorist conjugations if it would make me come across as less of a hairdresser.

Withnail,

Normally your posts are interesting and I read them thinking you know something. But this time... I'm sorry to inform you that you're the 'moron'.

After you're done ranting and complaining, possibly go take a look at the original post. Read very carefully for the TWO very important pieces of information that you missed.

1) This thread was started in June of 2007.

2) The guy doesn't have an MBA. It was never said. That was all speculation from posters which you absorbed like a sponge.

Cheers.

Banjois,

The idea is that the more you search for the answer to "What's the best university in Canada?" the more you realize the question becomes harder to answer.

Concordia? I guess I could have gone there. I could have gone to McGill too if I'd wanted. I could have chosen any school in Canada, but I went to where I felt comfortable. Inside Canada ranking doesn't mean all that much. For certain programs it can matter, and outside Canada, it can possibly matter. I do agree that for certain careers or long-term aspirations (such as doctorates) then the university you start at can matter, but for the sake of education, a large percentage of Canadian schools are similar, and that's probably one of the best things about Canadian education.

As for Mr. Pink... looking at only one source to determine an opinion? That's, ummm... an interesting way to do research. I'll be sure to use that technique in the next paper I write. Smile

Ok, Perhaps I went a little too far with that rant!

Apologies...
